How To Hit A Short-Sided Bank Shot

From Cameron McCormick On December 31, 2020
Knowing where to miss shots is a critical part of every player’s strategy heading into The Masters. Depending on pin locations at Augusta National, there are a number of spots around the greens from which... it is simply impossible to get up and down. At Augusta it’s often easier to be 100 feet away from the hole and under it than 10 feet away and above it.

A great example of this can be found at “Nandina”, the penultimate 17th hole at Augusta, where the cardinal sin is going long right. Faced with this situation, players have just two options to get the ball anywhere close to a right hole location - a massive high flop shot or a low shot into the bank that ricochets and creeps onto the green.

If you’re ever faced with a shot like this, you’re in luck, because Titleist staff member Cameron McCormick has all the key ingredients for a links style carom shot that will allow you to skip the ball into the slope and leave you with a realistic chance to save par.
