McCarthy, Dou, Joo and Nunez round out 7-Win Week for Titleist


Titleist golf ball loyalists captured seven wins across the globe this week, led by Carlos Franco (Pro V1), who claimed his first PGA TOUR Champions title at the Shaw Charity Classic.

Also entering her tour’s winner’s circle for the first time was Caroline Masson (Pro V1x), who claimed her first LPGA Tour title at the LPGA Manlike Classic.

And Titleist Brand Ambassador Min-Gyu Cho trusted a Pro V1x golf ball and a full complement of Titleist club equipment as he prevailed on the JGTO Tour at the Fujisnakei Classic.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the other worldwide wins by Titleist golf ball players this week...

Titleist golf ball loyalist Dan McCarthy (Pro V1x) birdied three of the last four holes en route to a three-shot victory at the Cape Breton Open.

McCarthy was the only player to fire four consecutive rounds in the 60’s, including a pair of 4-under-par 68’s on the weekend to post an 18-under-par 270 victory total.

With the win, McCarthy further solidified his Order of Merit lead in the Mackenzie Tour/PGA TOUR Canada’s overall standings.

Fellow Titleist golf ball loyalists Taylor Moore (Pro V1x) and Dillon Rust (Pro V1x) tied for third at 14-under-par.

McCarthy tied for fourth at this event last year and tied for third in 2014.

With the win, McCarthy becomes the only player in the tour’s history to win four times in a season.

TITLEIST BY THE NUMBERS:

 Titleist was the most relied upon golf ball at the event with 90 players in the field trusting a Pro V1 or Pro V1x, more than four times the nearest competitor with 18.

The win was the ninth for Titleist golf ball loyalist through the first 10 events on the 2016 Mackenzie Tour.

Titleist golf ball loyalist Zecheng Dou of China captured the Yulongwan Yunnan Open for his fourth PGA Tour China victory of the season.

Dou finished three shots clear of American Charlie Saxon (Pro V1x) to give the Titleist golf ball loyalists a 1-2 finish.

Both players shot four consecutive rounds in the 60’s.

With three straight birdies on the final three holes, Dou closed with 4-under-par 67 en route to a 23-under-par 261 victory total.

Titleist Brand Ambassador Yi Cao (ProV1x) finished solo fourth. He fired a final round 5-under-par 66 to finish at 16-under, seven shots behind the winner.

TITLEIST BY THE NUMBERS:

 Titleist was the top golf ball choice at the event with 84 players trusting a Pro V1 or Pro V1x, more than four times the nearest competitor with 19.

Eight of the 11 players who finished among the top 10 and ties relied upon Titleist golf balls for their success

Titleist golf ball loyalist Heung Chol Joo (Pro V1x) closed with a 6-under-par 66 en route to a 12-under-par 276 victory total at the NS HomeShopping Jeonbuk Open.

It marked the second career win for Joo, who also won this event two years ago.

Titleist Brand Ambassador Hyung Joon Lee (Pro V1x) fired a final round 8-under-par 64 to finish tied for 2nd, one shot behind Joo.

TITLEIST BY THE NUMBERS:

 Titleist was the most relied upon golf ball at the event with 119 players trusting a Pro V1 or Pro V1x, nearly twelve times the nearest competitor with 10.

Of the 15 players who finished among the top 10 and ties, 13 relied upon Titleist golf balls.

And on the PGA TOUR Latinoamerica, Titleist golf ball loyalist Augusto Nuñez (Pro V1x) fired a 6-under-par 65 in the final round to post a winning score of 25-under-par 259 at the inaugural Flor de Caña Open.

“I couldn’t be happier about winning my first tournament as a pro,” said Núñez. “I was nervous, but I was able to overcome the tough moments by giving myself many chances. I knew I was playing well and I just needed to trust myself and my caddie, who helped me a lot.”

In addition to collecting his first win as a professional, the Argentine moves into the No. 1 spot on the new PGA TOUR Latinoamérica Order of Merit.
