  1. Hi everyone,

I purchased a 913 D3 9.5 degree w/ ahina d+ X-stiff and then bought a speeder 757x tourspec to replace the ahina with. The ahina plays to 45" and the 757x plays to 44.75

My swing speed is 113-117 on average.

My launch angle is on the higher side with both shafts 13*-15* and my spin rates are kind of upsetting, backspin rates of between 3200-3700. It's robbing me of yards and I want to know if anyone has some input as to shaft options through Titleist that would lower my spin and launch. I was thinking BB7 or VC7.2 Tour Spec ... any thoughts? Thanks

    Hi Colby,

those are some big numbers. That kind of swing speed would require a lower launch and spin. The higher the swing speed, the lower the launch and higher spin required.

For example, you would need a launch angle of 11-13 with a spin of 3000 in order to max out your distance potential. Judging by your numbers, I will guess that you prefer or play a cut shot. Usually "cutters" hit the ball with an open face (in relation to the path) which increases loft at impact. the effect on the ball at this point is higher spin and launch. Players who draw the ball typically are the opposite.

If you are willing to make some minimal swing changes, a local PGA pro with a great playing profile would be a good choice to visit for some insight. If you are looking to equipment changes to solve your problem, you may find some relief with heavier and stiffer shafts. Also think about having a shorter shaft. The PGA Tour average was 44.5" in 2011 (I haven't seen more current numbers). I've been using a 44" driver for a few years and my consistency and distance has increased since I hit the middle of the club more often.

    Consider:

    -UST V2 86

    -Fuji Motore F1 85

    Happy golfing

  3. Hi Paul,

I appreciate you getting back to me. I forgot to mention that my ball flight is usually straight, straight with a sight fade, maybe 10 yards. I can hit draws, i just find i have to swing a little bit easier.

My handicap is a 2.8 as well.

I had the. Motore f1 85 in a driver before and found it didn't feel very good. It was like a noodle. I've hit the vc 7.2 and it feels pretty solid, but from what I've read, the bb7 takes the best from graphite designs and brings the ball flight and spin down quite a bit.

    Colby,

Due to custom club fitting being such an intricate process, it is difficult to make recommendations without being able to see your swing or ball flight.  Our best recommendation would be to visit your nearest authorized Titleist fitter to get fit for a 913 series driver in order to determine the proper model and custom specifications for your game.  If you need some assistance in locating one, please let us know and we can point you in the right direction.  If you are in the Toronto area, our National Fitting Centre is located at Eagles Nest Golf Club.  The Centre is armed with an arsenal of shafts and we are confident we will get the right shaft into your driver.  Give us a call at 1-877-928-8898 ext 2 (for clubs) in order to book a time.  We are currently closed as we fit outside but can put you on a waiting list for a call back once the weather turns for the better.

If you are looking to lower your spin and ball flight, you are in the right direction by going with the V.C. 7.2 Tour Spec; I would also consider the Rombax Type-X and Kiyoshi Black.

I would be really suprise to see a shaft drop your launch and spin enough to make a drastic difference. Of course, both shaft you've listed should help (along with the Matrix 7M3) but I think you would be better off lowering the loft on the surefit setting or even going to a lower lofted head (8.5 should drop the launch by 1* and spin by about 350RPM).

The Matrix 7M3 is suppose to be the (ot top 3) lowest launch and spinning on the market... but it plays firm to flex so you have to try it to see if it fits...

  6. Thanks for you replies, I have returned the 9.5 head and went with a 7.5. at the c1 setting I am getting  10* launch and 2400-2600 RPM Spin, I am quite happy with those numbers. Im going to be order a 20hd and 23hd soon as well, I can not wait for those
