913 Shafts... What do you game?

    I currently have the 913 with the ProForce V2 (x-stiff), cut to 44". I'd like to know whether there's better options to reduce spin. I don't want to switch for distance, rather I'm looking to reduce the misses that can be amplified by a shaft that produces too much spin. I'm doing a session with an authorized Titleist fitter tomorrow so I'll have stats on swing speed, spin rates, etc. Anyone here specifically choose a shaft for reduced spin? If so, which one and why?

    After my fitting last week (with Trackman), I was surprised by the numbers with the different shafts I tried. For me the Diamana S+ Blue 62 stiff worked the best for me even though I am a high spin and launch player. The D3 9.5 spun 2400 RPM with a launch angle of 14 degrees (104 MPH swing speed) I tried the lower spin White shaft, but the spin was higher (2650 RPM), and even the Pro Force V2 (2550 RPM).  After all, every swing is different and trying different combinations with a launch monitor will tell you what you need as the numbers don't lie.

    When I went for my fitting at Eagles Nest they tried a number of shafts to help dial in the spin along with distance and ball speed.

    I ended up with a Phenom 60 shaft which is stiff on my 913 D2. My spin rate ended up at 2810 with a ball speed of 141 and a swing speed of 94.2. We were also trying to get a higher launch angle than I had previously so that my carry would be further and with that shaft I ended up with a launch angle of 11.6

    I must say - when we finished, my dispersion (left to right) was much tighter than with my previous driver, and that was what ultimately sold me. I am very pleased with my new driver. I am hitting more fairways than ever and can even manage a draw or a fade in most situations when I need them. My slices are pretty well completely gone (unless I forget to swing properly of course.)

    From what I can tell from my experience, the same shaft may have different spin characteristics for different players depending on the attack angle and other factors so it will be interesting to see what you end up with after your visit with the fitter.

    Glad you got good results from you fitting at Eagles Nest, but im gaming my 913 D3 9.5*, with a Fujikura Fuel 70G Stiff. It helped me gain 18yds, and it also brought my ball speed up to 150. It also took my swing speed from a 100mph, to a 103mph.

    Interesting feedback! My current setup (913 10.5, Xstiff ProForce V2 44") at 116mph swing speed is producing anywhere from ~3,800-5,000rpms depending on the shape I'm trying to play. Needless to say, this is what's causing some serious challenges when facing a head wind. I've been testing multiple shafts such as the Oban, Matrix, UST etc in several configurations which are helping but unfortunately not all my tests are with the Titleist head. What I need is a high launching low spinning shaft in S or possibly X. Does anyone have experience with the Oban Purple?

    Hi Jake,

    With spin rates of 3,800-5,000 rpms, chances are there won't be a shaft to reduce spin enough. 

    Loft and CG of the head will have the biggest influence on spin. 

    On a center strike, 3,800-5,000 rpms of spin means there is too much loft being delivered at impact.

    I would try a 9.5/8.5 head with a shaft that fits the way you deliver the club.

    Thanks for the feedback Chris. Unfortunately my launch angle isn't ideal (i.e. 9-12*) even with the 10.5. I feel it's a more to do with a rusty off season swing. Maybe not the best time to be dialing in the driver.

    Jake,

    You have the same issues I had. In my case, I had a negative angle of attack on my drives which lead to low launching drives with similar spin rates to yours. I went on a hunt for a high launch/low spin shaft hoping that would solve the problem. I quickly realized that I wasn't going to find a miracle shaft to get me to the ideal numbers. Instead I started working on my swing to try to change my AoA to positive numbers. It's a really tough thing to change, but that's how I started getting decent numbers.

    With my GD Tour AD DI 7x, I'm right around 13* launch and 2800 rpms. Still not perfect, but certainly an improvement over what it used to be.

    I have 4 shafts.  The first two I was fit for (they pretty much preoduced the same results on the launch monitor) and the last two have similar specs- mid launch, mid spin.  I bought a few beat up 910F 3 woods and pulled the tips from the shafts to use in the drivers.

    Alidila Phenom 60 Stiff (my regular gamer)

    Fujikura Motore F3 60 Stiff

    Mitsubishi Fubuki Tour 60 Stiff

    Mitsubishi Diamana Red Board 60 Stiff
