Okay so I was thinking... maybe overly so as the case tends to be so often. But I got thinking about balls, distance and control. Basically, I'm looking for the ball the best suits my needs from the Titleist stable. Of course, I have used both Pro V1 and 1x and I do get decent all-around results with them. But being a tinkerer I had to see about the other offerings. Before I continue I need to explain that I am a higher spin golfer.

Today I played 27 holes and used the time to test the V1, V1x, NXT Tour and Velocity. For the record I have never struck a Tour or Velocity until now. The results were very good with the latter two. I walked away impressed with the Velocity... that is one long ball, it feels great off of everything and I found the greenside capabilities of this ball to be very playable. The spin and check ability with full irons and partial wedges was very playable. On the nine I played with the Velocity I scored a -1 35. Would love a dozen or two of these with 55... as both children were born on the 5th day.

I found that the NXT Tour was also long off of the tee and did provide slightly better greenside spin than Velocity as you might expect. Between my 909D3 driver and the ball these had all of the variables that I look for in a ball. Feel, spin and did I day feel. A -2 using it was a bonus. I would say that the Tour was every bit as long as Velocity

Now the irony is that I scored poorest +2 with the Pro V1/V1x combo. I personally think the loss of distance factored in.

Perhaps my spin rates and lower spinning "distance" balls are a perfect match.

    Alex...  Interesting post.

I got a free half dozen Velocity balls when I played at Pinehurst in February and have not taken them out yet as I am not quite the tinkerer that you are. Perhaps after reading your notes, I may have to take some out for a test spin (so to speak).

    Thanks for the info.

My pleasure Darius. I'm curious to see what happens with you. Since the original post it was determined that Pro V1x is the best fit for me. Spin numbers were perfect.

Hi Alexander I'm like you I was given the Pro V1 for my ball. I my ball into some long grass and came out with the Velocity. I found that the ball flight was lower and longer for me and responded excellent around the greens. I felt more comfortable with the Velocity over the Pro V1 so I have made the change. Hope that helps Steve H.

Very interesting. I have found the Velocity to be a dynamo. I haven't had the chance to test on firm greens. Meh... if it says Titleist I'm comfortable with it :D

    Hi Alexander,
I just posted the below in another thread and felt it made sense to paste here as well.  That said, I would not put 'too much' stock into your score from one single round with one golf ball vs another.  Be sure to gather a large enough samples size to validate your results.  Your local PGA of Canada golf professional may also be able to assist you in choosing the right Titleist golf ball for your game.

Best of luck Alexander.  Thank you for trusting Titleist.

    Mitch:

Thanks for getting back to me. I can tell you whole-heartedly that when it comes to tournament action I use and will continue to use Pro V1x. It isn't that other offerings are less trustworthy but I trust V1x and it's consistency. Casual rounds I actually love the So/Lo.. and I have considered putting it into play as well. I just go back to trust. LOL.. I have put in a ton of rounds with all of the offerings this year... and I mean tons. :D
