Well I was pleasantly surprised to receive a sleeve of the new balls to test last week and have used them for 3 rounds to date in weather varying from 70 degrees last week down to a lovely high of 50 yesterday with wind and light rain. A little background, I am a +2 handicap, use all Titleist gear and have only used the ProV1X since it was introduced. I found I had a little too much spin with the ProV1 and was unable to hit a tight fade or draw so when the ProV1X came along, my prayers were answered. Then came along the new ball, which to me, has one upped the existing ProV1X. Over the 3 rounds to date I am a combined 5 under which, for using a brand new ball, I am quite pleased with. I tracked all 3 rounds using Game Golf which gave me some very useful comparative data between the two balls.
Driver - Gain of roughly 5 yards and was able to hit a controlled draw or fade with ease.
3 wood - Small distance gain of 3-5 yards. The new ball seemed to come off the club face with a lower boring flight before rising. Actually had a shot back up a couple feet on a par 5 which was nice to see
3-6 iron - Minor distance gain but was able to work the ball in both directions. Ball stopped quicker on the greens with minor rollout
7-9 iron - No distance change but again, the ball would stop very quickly with little to no rollout
Wedges - No change in distance and similar reaction to ProV1X on full shots. I found the new test ball very workable around the greens and after leaving a few shots short, became confident with the balls ability to stop quickly on 25-40 yard pitches.
Putting - Very similar feel to the ProV1X. Soft feel but not to the point that it feels "mushy" coming off the club face.
My biggest surprise was the durability. I was able to get 36 holes out of one ball. It had a couple spots with groove cuts that, had it been competitive rounds I would of taken it out of play, but I really wanted to see how long it would last.
Overall, I think this is going to be a great golf ball with workability, feel and durability. Cant wait to get my hands on these so I can get them into play.
