On Aug 26, 2014 I had my iron fitting done at Eagles Nest, the day was one of the hottest of the summer with a fair bit of wind coming right at me. Chris Welton was my fitter and made me feel very comfortable. The session seemed to go fast, but when you are having fun things always seem that way. It turns out I was best suited to the AP2 714 irons with a project X 5.5 shaft and 2 degrees flat.
On Thursday Sep 18, 2014 I went to Golftown in Barrie and ordered my irons (6 thru W) and a 56 degree SM5 Vokey wedge. The email I received from Chris after the fitting gave the specs and a phone number to put a high priority on your custom order. Less than a week later on the Wednesday Sep 24, Golftown called and left a message the clubs were ready for pick up - that was fast. I did not waste any time and went to the store and picked up my new irons. My first round with the new irons I shot a 76 at The Ridge (at Nottawasaga) from the blues.
Yesterday (Oct 5, my fifth round with the new irons) I recorded my first ever hole in one at Innisbrook Golf Course in Barrie hole number 10. It was during our league ending golf tournament and the guys on my team were pretty happy as it turns out it was the only skin of the day. The conditions for the day were cool (about 10 degrees celcius) and a club to 2 club wind in my face. The rangefinder had the yardage at about 154 yards slightly uphill, accounting for the wind I went up a club and hit a 7 iron past the pin and it tricked back off the slope and disappeared. I wasn't sure if it was hidden by a ridge but when we got up to the green there was no ball to be seen, I ran over to the hole and saw the my ball at the bottom. I have been playing golf for 45 years and it is a great feeling. It was also special because of the 90 other golfers at the tournament to share it with. Since this is a Titleist form I should also mention I was wearing my favourite Footjoy golf shirt and my Footjoy rain jacket and Titleist Players golf glove. The irons are right at home in the Titleist golf bag.
Thank you Chris for all your help.
