I am a member at Woodington Lake and this fall I was on the Legend course#18 green and our 2 resident white swans were sitting on the edge of the green. My second shot ended up just off the green. Tricky uphill put was too aggressive and ball rolled in front of the swans. Male swan decided to go sit near my ball. Needing a tricky put to salvage par, I had to make the decision to: (A) risk getting attacked to play my next shot (B)Taking a penalty shot (C)losing a ProV1X. I swallowed my pride and took the penalty. Swan added a nice ProV1X to his collection. This occurs on a regular basis, swans will just sit on edge of green and not allow golfers to retrieve their balls. Getting a triple bogey wasn't what troubled me the most, it was losing a Titleist ProV1x golf ball!!!!!!One upside was I shot personal best score (84)on the Legend for 2014.....Thought I would share a nature story with my fellow TT Members. Good golfing to all...Rob from Beeton

I feel your pain Rob losing a Prov is tough especially when you didnt lose it to a pond or the woods but a swan highjacking it lol that's a cool story didn't know they loved prov's as much as we do  :D

Great story Rob -Thanks for sharing it with us!.  It is rough to lose a good ball when it really isn't lost.  Something that might just ease the pain a bit is that I think your 84 is actually an 83.  I am not a Rules guru but decision 1/4-10 provides for free relief in "dangerous situations".  While the decision speaks to "rattlesnakes and bees" I think that anyone who has encountered an protective swan or goose would recognize an element of danger.  Had I been your playing partner I would have let you take relief but check with the Club Pro - he/she should be able to provide more definitive advice.
