Make sure your head doesn't go up and down during your swing just complete your rotation and don't go to far back because you will do a compensation.

    Allen...

I find that when I start hitting thin shots it is because I have stopped hitting down into the ball. The main idea behind hitting the ball is to hit it with a descending blow allowing the loft of the club to get it into the air. Most often when people are hitting thin shots it is because they are trying to help the ball into the air by scooping. When I am playing on a flat lie I don't have that much of an issue, however when I am on a downhill lie I start to lose trust in the loft (not on purpose) and that is when I hit most of my thin shots.

So - If you are one who tries to help the ball into the air by scooping - try trusting the loft and use a descending strike at the ball.

Good luck with your endeavors. Hope this helps a little.

Hey Allen, Try hitting some shots at 50% effort and only 1/2 and 3/4 swings. use a 7 or 8 iron to start, then once comfortable try 5 iron. Get a feel for the ball leaving the club and bottoming out. Start with half swings 50%, then up to 3/4 50%, then full 50%. if start hitting thin again start over and go through sequence. Send a lot of time on the 50 1/2 shots. Great feel for contact drill. Hope that helps, James :)

When you hit the ball, just make sure you take out a little divot or at least, brush the grass after the ball.

Hope your game will get better

Another tip - drag the club back on the take away brushing the grass for about 6 inches, and slow down your back swing.  Tempo is everything and a lot of the time thin shots are the result of taking it back too fast.... hope this helps!
