Do You Keep a Notebook ?

I was chatting with one of my fellow golf members today about notes depicting the breaks and grain on various greens today. We often find ourselves walking off the green "I have to remember that this green breaks up hill" or "this green never breaks as much as it looks" way too often. So - we figured we should give some serious thought to making a notebook of our various greens for future reference.

I am curious - have many of you done that at your course?

If you have - how do you start?  Is there a set of typical notations or marks that should be used?

Perhaps if someone could share a picture of one of your drawings with notations that you use, it would give me a good idea on how to start. If I start now, who knows - maybe by the time this season is over I will have mapped out all 27 greens at our course.

I certainly appreciate any help on getting me started.

Darius, I have always wondered what happens when a pro walks a course. I would love to hear some feedback also as I have finally become a member to a course. Would definitely help out!! $$$

    Hey Darius,

No, I don't keep a notebook.  Between scorecard and my SkyCaddie, I already have a lot of stuff to juggle during a round.  But, I get it.  Having green notes, or even notes about how a green is deceptively uphill, like half a club worth, that kind of stuff would be useful.

On a separate note, I was reading a back issue of Golf Magazine, and one of the "Vision54" founders was advocating keeping a journal about swing thoughts, colour of shirt, what you ate for breakfast, ... anything you think might have lead to great round.  It can help you spot patterns.  Just a thought.

    Hi Darius,

Below is a link to a yardage book from the 2011 Masters. Great info.

    Cheers,

    Thank you Alex...

That is an awesome link, and gives me some great insight as to what I need to do. I plan on starting by mapping our greens and then perhaps move on and add the fairways in the future.

    Truly appreciate this link !
