I see that Jason Bohn and others have already put 716 irons in their bag for the balance of the year.

One has to admit that the two year spacing between introducing new clubs is a great move. It certainly gives the staff at Titleist the opportunity to ensure their clubs are well designed and that the changes are truly an improvement over their previous releases.

I still have my 712 AP1's in the bag and I have a hard time imagining how Titleist could have improved on such a great club. However I look forward to when they are on the shelves and available for the rest of us to put them to the test. I doubt if my budget will allow me to update all my irons, but perhaps I can look at at replacing my mid to low irons with something new and keep my long irons as they are. I read that many of the tour players are mixing their sets with AP1's and either AP2's or MB's. If it works for them, maybe it is a great way to update my kids half a set at a time :)

    TEAM TITLEIST
    July 28, 2015

    Hi Team Titleist,

It's an exciting week for us as it marks the start of the tour seeding and performance validation process with our staff players for new prototype 716 irons and 816 hybrids. Our golf club R&D team is on-site at the Quicken Loans National event on the PGA Tour working closely with many of the best players in the world to get their feedback and input as they put these new prototypes in play for the first time.

Tour validation is a critical step of the process that all Titleist golf clubs go through prior to being launched to market to insure they are faithful to the Titleist brand promise of innovation, performance and quality excellence.

The next steps in the process will be continued work across the worldwide professional tours to get player feedback globally. In the coming weeks we'll start working with our network of trade partners and certified club fitters to educate them on the performance benefits to help them provide a better experience for consumers when the products come to market.

We will update Team Titleist in the coming months with detailed product information straight from our team of experts... so stay tuned!

As always, thank you for your continued support.

    All the best,

    Your friends at Team Titleist

I went to have my fitting done earlier this year and as much as I loved the 714 AP2's I am holding off to have a try of the 716's. I did pick up two Vokeys and my 915 D2 driver as recommended and couldn't be any happier :) By the way, aren't you suppose to switch irons every 4-5 years anyways Darius..... Can't wait to try them out!

Hey Tom - I like your idea of changing every 4 to 5 years. However after forking out to put the Scotty in my bag this year it may be a tough job to dig into the bank account to change so soon :)

I'm playing 712 AP2's and I love them. It might be interesting to swing the 716's and compare that's for sure. I saw pics yesterday provided by mygolfspy of the new 716 AP2's, AP1's and CB/MB irons and once again titleist hits it out of the park! Can't wait to see them close up!

I am also playing 712 AP2's with rifle flighted 6.0 shafts the 716's look sweet . Its going to be a hard switch. The feel of my setup is pure.

The new irons look sweet...can't wait to hit them! Loved the look of the 714's, but I have to say I like the 716's more.

I have 712 AP1's as well and really like them. They work well for me (handicap has dropped from 24 to 17.8 since having been fitted for these irons) so I think they'll be staying in the bag for awhile. I would love to try the new 716's though...in a couple years I'll be looking to upgrade again. I, like Darius, also think the new club releases are better a couple years apart. They are already top quality so no sense in pumping out 'new and improved' varieties of woods and irons several times each year.

I cannot wait to try them. I switch my irons every few year and will do the same when the 716s come out. I have a guy waiting to buy my 714.

That is a great drop in handicap Wendy !

Many would love to get that kind of improvement in such a short time. Congratulations !
