    It's Players Championship week and the Par 3, 137 yard, 17th always provides plenty of drama.  While short in yardage, the volume of water, gusts of wind and overall pressure of the moment make it one of the most interesting holes to watch (and play) in golf.

    What is the most dramatic Par 3 that you have played?
    Where is it located and how did it provide drama for your golf group?

    The Links at Crowbush Cove.
    Hole #17 at Crowbush. We had a tee-time on one of the most extreme golf weather days we had experienced. This short hole played almost double the length. We had struggled all day in huge gusting winds and rain, but as soon as we got to 17 it started to hail as well. With all of that against us I was able to hit it to 10 ft. and walk away with a solid par.

    That would be #2 Red Course at Foxwood in Baden, ON. All carry over the water from the white tees (150 yards) and back tees (180 yards) with a wind always present and needing your attention with no bailout left or right, only long. If you go right, you're in the forest and if you go left, you're going to post a double or more because it's a very tough up and down over a sand trap. Your typical signature hole. It's always a factor in the club championship, match play etc. and the Beat the Pro Hole at special functions but is a factor especially if it's on your back nine of this 27 hole rotation which would be the White/Red course.
    I've see balls skip across the water and make it to the other side, along with short shots bouncing off boulders just shy of the green and even a ball land on top of the railway ties that keep it from eroding into the water. Always a nervous situation on the tee regardless whether your a low or high handicap player. It's funny that having to carry the water for more than 140 yards on this hole, just does something to you on the tee and can bite you at any time and normally gets one or two of us in our group.

    Interesting topic Mitch !!!

    I have been very fortunate to have the opportunity to play a lot of top end courses and I have to say that for me it is a tie between the 15th hole at Kingsbarnes Scotland, and the 17th at Sawgrass. The 7th at Pebble Beach is a close third.
    The 15th at Kingsbarnes is a full 212 yards from the white tees with all carry over water to a green laid out on a peninsula. With the winds blowing on shore it makes it hard to get the right line into the hole and select the correct distance. If you hit it long enough to reach the pin but are left of the target you can be facing a very difficult up and down. Left is the safe shot to avoid the water but they have trees blocking much of that line. If your hit is short or long on the target line, you are wet. This hole has foiled many a tour pro during the Dunhill Links Championship and it worked it's magic on me as well. The 17th at Sawgrass is a tough hole, but the day I played there (20 years ago) the winds were calm, and I recall hitting a clean 9 iron to the middle of the green leaving an easy two putt for a par. My friend however, put 4 balls in the water before eventually hitting the target, so I can certainly see how it can wreck havoc on a player if they are under pressure to salvage a score :)

    The must memorable par 3 for me was at Twin Rivers golf course in Petawawa,Ont
    # 8 167 yds from the back to a elevated green, no big deal but on the the tee was a sign saying "please beware of bear" yup that's what I said!!!! the right side of the green was like a cliff and down below there was a cave. Now this was in 1994 and they did close the course once because of the bear roaming the 8th hole with it's cubs. Needless to say when you were putting out on the green and looked down you could see hundreds of unclaimed balls just lying down there at the bottom just waiting for someone to take a chase and go get them.

    "Cliffhanger" at grey wolf in Panorama BC. Nothing like being the last guy to hit in a scramble after watching 3 balls plummet to the valley floor. Buckled down a stuck it it to 5 feet for the Bird. Boys bought me a round for my efforts! Medium/ pro V1X

    After a long summer of working maintenance at Blackhawk golf club in spruce grove Ab, my buddy and I decided to take a trip to the mountains to play a couple rounds and decided upon Stewart Creek in Canmore AB. Concluding the breathtaking round is a straight down elevation drop par 3. Almost a cliff to describe it I suppose. I'm no expert but normally courses don't have par 3s for their eighteenth holes. But what I liked about this one is it really makes you question your judgement on club selection on a beautiful way to finish a round. To anyone reading I highly encourage checking out Stewart Creek. Size L

    Number 12 at Tullymore Golf Course in Stanwood, MI. From the tips it was 257 (plays all carry) and was in to a strong wind the day we played it.

    Drama when you have 4 guys standing on the tee and none wanting to admit (nor play) that they needed a Driver to get back there. Only 1 ball made the green in the foursome and it took every bit of a 3 Wood to get it there!

    While on a family vacation in South Africa, I had the incredible opportunity to play Pinnacle Point Golf Resort near CapeTown. While there me and my dad, in the middle of a already close game of handicapped match play, came across hole 7, a 130 yard par 3 overlooking playing over cliffs and the ocean. Beside the incredible view, my father decided to add more drama to the hole by instigating a closest to the pin challenge, where loser buys drinks. Amazingly, he hit his first GIR not only of the round, but of the entire year, and I was so struck by the beauty I left my pitching wedge short and my Pro V1 ended up in the ocean. To this day it is still the greatest hole I've ever played for so many different reasons. Both me and my father wear medium to large tshirts respectively.

    #12 Algonquin Golf Club in St Andrews New Brunswick. Played the 2014 Maritime Cup at this course which is a team match play event. #12 was always a decisive hole in the match and selecting the right club on the tricky but scenic hole was crucial!

    Making a 2-putt par on the 17th at TPC Sawgrass. There is nothing better than playing golf with your best golf buddy (and playing well). We both made par on the 17th and went to the 18th all-square. The day at TPC was an extraordinary memory.

    17th hole at PGA West aka Alcatraz!!! All you can see from the tee is black rocks and water. Terrifying Tee shot.

    Canadian Rockies - Banff Springs Hole #4 - Devil's Cauldron

    My brothers and I were playing this downhill Par 3 from the white tees and it was playing around 165 yards for the day. The wind usually swirls on this hole as the green is set in a location where the mountains have an influence on the ball flight. One of my brothers hit a 6 iron which caught the lip of the front right bunker and the ball nestled 10 feet from the cup. What a stroke of luck. But, he did not make the putt...

    I am proud to say that I have been a loyal Titleist club player for many years and couldn't be happier with the performance of my equipment and ball. Thank you for allowing my this venue to share my story of one of Canada's best Par 3's.

    If I am fortunate to win, I would like to give the XL Shirt to my brother, as he is a Titleist loyalist as well.

    The 17th at chambers bay, in windy conditions and pouring rain i needed a par to extend the match against my brother. After being down 4 on the back 9 a lot of pressure was on, I had a huge two putt par to extend the matchup onto the 18th hole. Due to the conditions it was one of the toughest par 3's ive ever played, and the intensity of the matchup added a lot of drama to it. After a tee shot that left us both around 15 feet from the cup, i just missed a birdie putt and tapped in for par. Luckily he 3 putted for par, and the match got extended to the final hole. Was some of the most fun ive had golfing. If im lucky enough to win the t-shirt would be xl

    Mauna Kea Golf Course on Kona, HI. Third hole. Beautiful and challenging with the winds off the ocean. Played that round with my wife while on vacation and she beat me by a stroke on that hole by playing a great shot to a left ahnd side pin location. I felt like, and literally was, trapped on an island with her for another week while she bragged about it every day and a few more times when we got home!

We chose right and we're both taken away by the whole course but especially the 18th par 3 that was a direct drop in elevation, almost cliff like. What makes it dramatic is finishing the round in such a way but also it challenges your judgement on club selection. I can't remember the yardage but I remember thinking to club up the next time I played it. :) Size L

    First hole... Whitetail Golf Club near Eganville, Ont. Me and my buddies play a reunion match there annually, and every year it seems to come down to a stroke or two in deciding the trophy winner. There is intense pressure as it's sometimes rare to start on a par 3... the winner of that hole is often the winner of the day.
