It is one thing to have great equipment to play with and I am so thankful I adopted the Titleist line. Having been fit for my Titleist clubs from Driver all the way down to my wedges has given me the confidence that I have the right tools to help me be the best I can be. That is not where it ends however as we continue in our never ending pursuit of IT. There is something out there that will ultimately give us the edge. We have all seen them... Golf Gadgets !!! There are gadgets that will help us hit the ball 20 yards further, chip our shots closer to the hole, and stroke our putts straighter. There are Gadgets that will build muscles, and some that help us avoid using ours. Some are absolutely awesome, and some make you wonder why anyone would ever buy it other than to distract your opponents :) What's your favourite Gadget ? Either one you can't live without, or one you got the best laugh out of ?

Darius ... I am curious ... what is in your photo?

As for me, I will occasionally practice with an elastic strap or a "power band" that wraps around my arms and helps to reinforce the concept of keeping my arms and chest connected throughout the swing.

It's a great little tool and I like using it in the off season in particular when I tend to lose some focus with my golf swing. I don't use it all of the time, but I do bring it out periodically as a "tune up" or "check up"!

My other "gadget" is using my smartphone in practice to record my swing for a visual aid. I use swing analysis software to assist. I find it helpful because it gives me that extra pair of eyes when I practice and similar to the "power band" I don't use it all of the time, but periodically when I want to check up on my fundamentals, etc.

Dino - You are not the first one to use the strap. One of my friends uses one on the range, and I have to admit he has honed an enviable swing, so perhaps there is really something to that.
The picture I added is a driver with a built-in grass trimmer :) No - I do not have one, but it sure would come in handy in some of our fescue.

Hi Darius - Your photo gives new meaning to a rescue club! :) As for the "power band", I guess in the big scheme of things, what I like about it most is that it helps reinforce my rhythm and keeps me attuned to turning my shoulders/chest and my hips.

While I find some gadgets intriguing as "teaching aids", I also try to keep from becoming too enamoured with them -- after all, it is very easy to be seduced by the "flavour of the month" regarding swing aids, etc.
  6. Hi Darius V
Oh dear your posting has really made me smile - I cannot make out what that gadget is -appears to be some sort of mini lawnmower - or alien crop circle ha ha.
Golf is a game of precision / repetition and whats upstairs. We all have strengths but its the weakness that bring in these gadgets to get back the confidence or technique to make that particular weakness improve.
Identifying the weakness add a tad Common sense a bit of Physics and your weakness will improve.
My weakness - worst putter in the world. Three and four putt nearly green - score killer. Playing partners then put a ball one yard away from the hole and had to sink - 7 putts later it sunk - clearly a major issue.
After they took me to a pro to get sorted. Everything wrong - grip / alignment posture etc. - correction take up fishing ha ha.

All the great putter gurus say to putt correctly - the putter must follow a curve path - now for the physics bit - if i do it this way i would never hit it square - so my correction has to be straight back and then straight forward. How can i achieve this - now for the gadget bit - i got a steel builders sprit level and rest the putter against it - in my swing path the putter must touch the sprit level through out the swing on the way back through to the follow through - making sure it follows a straight path and there is no twisting of the head. ( As long as the putter is making contact with the sprit level all the time - the path is straight )
What i have done is narrowed the margin of error on the point of impact - still using the rubbish grip / posture etc.
Does it work - well since i used this method i know i can sink anything and two
putting is now the norm - and a tad disappointing ha ha

My point - the right gadgets can only help

Wow that was long - now where can i get one of those mini lawnmowers ha ha
  7. I guess the closest I come to using gadgets would be my alignment sticks. It's interesting to read about all the supposed game improvement things out there but most of them are....to me....just gimmicks. I think a lesson would be better than wasting money on most of them.

Cool grass trimmer Darius! I do need one of those for the yard. :)
  8. Hi Darius, I don't have any gadgets, but I keep changing Scotty's, and I think the new Cameron and Crown Newport 2 is the ultimate. I was knocking in putts this Fall on less than perfect greens all the time.

Gotta be my rangefinder. Knowing the distance to the pin definetly helps the game.
