Never stop learing

  1. I don't know about everyone else, but I find myself trying different shots from different lies and keep trying to improve. I have made two adjustments in my short game this year, and I can't believe the results. Sometimes, it is just remembering something you used to do, other times it is something brand new. While on vacation, the local pro was giving a putting lesson to my kids. One thing he talked about was on down hill putts, hit the ball slightly off the toe of the putter. I have heard this piece of advice before, but I incorporated it into my game plan the next day. I knocked in 3 down hillers from over 10 feet. It has continued for the last 6 weeks. This isn't just a phase. I am sure some of it is confidence, but I have always been a good putter. This has made me even better. The second move I started this year was bringing two wedges from the cart to my shot even when I figured for sure what club I was hitting. However, sometimes standing over the ball you realize the lie is not great, or you decide that you want to play a different shot. For the sake of saving time, or maybe just being lazy, I would never go back for another club. Now, I have 2 options when I get there, and while I am usually going with my original thought, sometimes now I go to plan B. Again, the results have been really good.

You are bang on Bob... This is a game where one never stops learning and that is part of what makes it so interesting and challenging. My problem is often that I will make a shot and then say to myself that I was supposed to play that ball off the back foot, or I needed to keep the legs quiet on that shot, or I should have choked up on that lie, or.....
The issue is not that I have not learned what I need to do, it is that I tend to forget until after I make the mistake :)
    I love this game !!!!!!!
  3. Yeah always good to have options. I'm like you I just grab the one club and sometimes wish I'd brought a different one.

I like bump and runs with my 8 iron but sometimes you need a wedge to get over trouble or the longer stuff to get it close.

    Thanks for that
