All great questions.  We'll usually start with your existing club(s).  For example, if you're looking to get fit for a driver...The Titleist Fitting Expert will usually have you hit some shots with your existing driver and ask you a few questions to learn exactly where you're looking to improve.  They will then move you into a Titleist driver that best fits your game based on what they've seen.  From there, they will tweak the specs as per the data and overall ball flight performance.  Finally, the fitter will recommend the Titleist Driver and specs that optimize your ball flight and overall shot preference.

I recently went through my very first "REAL" club fitting experience and it was very positive.

I had already engaged a few local professionals in some discussion about how to determine what I needed as far as a proper setup for my equipment.  Mostly, I got shrugs and dumb looks, at least one fellow had the honesty to tell me that he wasn't qualified to help me in that area.

Through some research, on-line forums and experimentation, I was able to get what to I think is a fairly good setup for me with regards to wedges and irons.  I used to bash the ball a long way,  with X-stiff shafts , some bending, and a bit of lead tape, I was able to get pretty comfortable with my sticks.  When it came to metal woods, things got a it bit more complicated. 

Metal woods offer so much more shaft options; shaft stiffness, flex point, shaft weigh, torque, butt stiffness, tip stiffness, etc. Usually, I was able to tell if either he head or the shaft was good for me on the range. Taking it out to the course was often quite a different story.

I decided it was time to invest in new woods and be done with it.  Then I found out that this can be a free service.  I had been using Titleist woods from some time, and it was a nice surprise to findout that their club fitting service is free of charge.

The fitter I dealt with was able to calm me down so that I used a "normal" swing off the tee. This is of course is  essentiall to finding the proper shaft and head configuration. We had a very good exchange with regards to how the shaft felt in my swing and the resulting flight of the ball.  The choice of heads was easily agreed upon and then it was just a matter of dialing in the proper lie and loft of the SureFit system.

I can now be confident that my misses are NOT DUE TO THE EQUIPMENT (although they will probably always happen)!!!

Those miss-hits are very much reduced thanks to the council of Marc-Andre Davidson (he is an authorized Titleist club fitter and works out of Ottawa),  The shaft and head configuration we agreed upon in our session works very well for me.

The"SureFit" tour system developed by Titleist allows the adjustment of driver. fairway and hybrid clubs without the need to engage the mystical "Tour Van".  The average golfer now has access to a fitting experience that is comparable to that previously available only to the touring professional.

With the aid of an experienced technician, this system lets average golfer maximize his investment and get the most enjoyment from the game.

I highly recommend this process to ANY person looking to make an investment in improving their game in the use of metal woods or hybrids,.

Now, I have a question regarding the availability of the "Titleist 910 Metalwood Weight Kit" (at least that is what GolfSmith calls it).   I can't seem to find this available anywhere in Canada (GolfSmith "restricts" its shipment to us).  GolfTown doesn't seem to know of its existence (this is where I prurchased the driver and fairway metals).  I do have contacts in the U.S. that will get this to me if necessary but I would appreciate it if you can direct me to a Canadian retailer that can get it for me.  Would you have any suggestions?

Took a while for me to respond, thanks for the advice.  I recieved my Surefit swimg weight kit a couple of weeks ago and it has offered me some extra choices and a few surprises as well.

I have always preferred a high swing weight on my drivers, and I suppose that has to do with my natural dedencies towards being a "hitter" as opposed to a "swinger".  What surprised me was that although I tended to prefer the driver in the D4 - D6 range, I found that the ball seemed to drop rather quickly after reaching it apex.  Using the heaviest weight screw in the kit kept the same penetrating launch but I get about a full second more hang time after the ball appears to have hit its apex. 

This has the club at a D8 swing weight,  this seems particularly high to me.  I seem to be able to handle the high swing weight as long as I don't rush the transition.  I'm wondering what if any effect the high head weight would have on the ball spin.

My driver is the 910 D3 with Project X Tour Issue 7B3 (76g 6.5 stiffness) set at C1.  Grip is Tour Velvet BCD so that should be a pretty standard butt end weight.

Also I wonder if I could have benefited from a heavier shaft (PX 8B4 at 83g) instead.  Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks for the question. The placement of the bezel weight was designed with golfers like you in mind. The ability to change weights along with the neutral position on the sole was designed to enhance and optimize both feel and swingweight preferences by a player. Despite being at the top end of our swingweight range, the use of the 12g weight offers a minimal and statistically insignificant impact on launch conditions. Based on the description of your ball flight, it sounds like you have found an ideal combination and have optimized both the feel and performance of your 910D3.

Thanks for the response, yes it does help to know that the added weight will have no significant impact on launch conditions.  That means that once the stats are dialed in I can "play" with the head weight to enhance feel. In this case the added weight seems to let me have a much better transition due to really feeling the club head at the top of the back swing and I suspect that it does help me to release better.

I don't know of anyone else that plays a D8 driver swing weight, but if the shoe fits....

Once the fitting session is complete and the result is that you decide to get your existing Titleist irons adjusted to the specs suggested by the Titleist Fitting Expert...you would simply bring your irons to your local Titleist Authorized Retailer and have them send the irons into us for the adjustment.  The Titleist Authorized Retailer will be able to provide you with pricing based on what you're looking to get done.  Our Titleist Fitting Experts can happily recommend a retailer during your fitting.

Can't believe I missed the fitting days in Ontario. Is there any plans to have any more fitting days close to the Barrie Ontario area? I'd love to experience a full fitting experience. I love all my Titleist gear and wanna take it to the next level.
