It's always best to see a Titleist fitter first and order the right fit. They always get it right. Big box are retailers and are there for the sale. The standard length is in stock and you can walk out with the clubs in hand. With respect and just one opinion. They can add an adapter. They should put you back on the trackman with the longer shaft to see if you lie is correct. They can correct the lie also. There probably will be an additional cost. Best of luck. Me, I always order after being properly fit thru a Titleist certified fitter/tech rep. That's just me.

It sounds like you could consider the following:

1. As far as lie and loft just specify what you want and Titleist will make it. You can easily change within 2 degrees afterwards.

2. As far as hard stepping or soft stepping I would say for 1/2" it is not worth the consideration since that is not enough to make a difference. I have done both in the past and it will affect the flight and feel but by just adding length you do not need to compensate.

3. I would be careful about changing shafts since that is a whole new picture for your clubs and you would probably need to visit a professional club fitter for that assessment.

4. You can have your clubs made to any reasonable swingweight, just specify when ordering.

Hi, Many of the larger retailers offer a 30 day playability guarantee and will let you return the clubs even though you have hit them already. Then you will be able to order the clubs with the specifications that you need.

The effective lie angle at 1/2" long will be 1° more upright (measured lie is still std), but if you hit the fitting shaft at 1/2" long and hit it straight, we would not recommend bending them flat.
You can hard step the XP 90 to give you a little more firmness as you add the 1/2".
If your store has a fitting system, they can contact us and we can send an Aerotech fitting shaft to them for your fitting. We would suggest asking them pricing as well on that shaft.

Thank you to everyone for the replies. I made the mistake of going to gsmith first and got fitted for swoosh irons that I couldn't hit for the life of me. After, I saw a Titleist fitter and got fit for my driver, 3 wood, hybrid an putter.

I used the playable guarantee to trade the swoosh irons in for the AP1's, but the fitting inside at gsmith just can't compare to getting fit outside on a trackman. I don't know if they will let me make any changes since I have already traded irons in already, but I am going to check with them.

Everything is pretty close, but you just can't tell getting fit inside. As soon as I hit a few shots in the real world, I realized instantly they are about 1/2" too short. Standard length is .75" shorter per iron than the standarf length of swoosh's I traded in.

I thought about asking the Titleist fitter I got my other clubs from to help, but I really don't want to waste anyone's time. I also would feel guilty if gsmith let me trade these irons in just to order them custom.

I will see what they say, and maybe consider 1/2" adapters with the xp90's or reshafts if those are my options. The other steel shafts I tried weren't feeling like the ones for me(dg pro, xp105, kbs c taper lite, nippon 1050, kbs tour 105, and others). I think I found my sweet spot with the weight of the xp90's, just hit too high and maybe not quite stiff enough.
If I can get a reshaft with a deal on labor, I'll try to find a way to hit the steelfiber I95' and maybe the ust recoil 95's before dropling the money on expensive shafts like that.

Lie angle could be adjusted after either option if needed correct?

Really wish I would have found the Titleist fitter from the get go, but lesson learned. I actually got a friend of mine to go to him and he got fitted for an entire Titleist bag as well.

Either way, really proud to be a part of Team Titleist and I will keep spreading the word and my personal lessons learned to everyone I know so they can get fit the proper way.

Similar problems. After taking 714s back under 30 day guarantee was fitted for716 with xp105 which I chose as I couldn't feel any difference with xp90 (other track man recommendation) and I'm now struggling with long irons/ find them heavy and lose distance, even though they are supposed to be lighter than my TM rac rifle shaft irons! ( 109-113) Not sure if I can return again to AM. Very little difference to s300 dg on 714- did an on course comparison with a friend. It's hard to feel differences on track man so I felt at the hands of the seller for advice. Really surprised how little whip is in this supposedly regular shaft. Will just have to persevere I suppose - love the look of clubs - but feel I've bought clubs that I'm not going to be able to use well
