Slicer needing some SureFit help please

  1. Hey everyone, I have what I think is an easy question or set of questions. First I play with the 915D2 Driver, 915F three wood, and a 19 and 22 degree 816H hybrid.

I was reading somewhere that Titleist woods are .5 degrees open. First is this correct? I guess I simply never paid attention. Would all of my woods be open from the start? I ask because, I'm a lefty and struggle with a slice on occasion so I thought I'd look at making some adjustments via the SureFit adjustment grid.

If I simply wanted to close the face incrementally and leave the loft as standard would I simply go from say D-4 to C-3 for a lefty? This would be for a righty; A-1 to B-2. Is this all it is?

    Thanks in advance!

Yes, I have also heard that the driver sets up .5 degrees open (not sure about the fairways & hybrids). You can try adjusting from D4 to C3 or D3. You could also try adjusting loft up to A1 which effectively closes the face a bit.
  3. Thanks, I'm going to take them out and work it out. I appreciate it!

Altering the settings won’t sort your slice out. You would be better off having a lesson
first to help with your slice. Then have your clubs setup to suit your swing. In my opinion the sure fit settings are just for fine tuning, not for fixing your swing.

Adding 0.75 loft will move the head from open to neutral. But will only affect a slight fade to a small draw. Slices and hooks are swing issues - agree with Richard A.
  6. I'm altering the settings to get the club to neutral so that I can work on fixing my slice. It's actually only occasionall y that it's really a slice and strictly with my longer driver and 3 wood. Most of the time I'm just being lazy in my swing. To be fair it's kind of more like a fade than a slice that I want to address. I want to hit it straighter and the one adjustment over may do it. I hope I can then work more on a consistent draw, which ends up being more straight...... If any of this makes sense. Golf..... Gotta love it!

We all occasionally hit slices or hooks, but that doesn't always mean there is something functionally wrong with our swing. Case in point...playing last night and had a tee shot from an elevated tee with the wind blowing left to right at about 15 gusting to 20 with a creek running all the way down the right side of the hole. I aim for the left side of the hole and bam I hit a giant hook...the only fairway I missed during the round. Was it my swing...yes, am I worried about that one swing...no. Sometimes (occasionally) our mind just messes with our swings.

Diggey...If you want to experiment with the hosel settings go ahead. You can always set them back to standard if it doesn't help.

I think I posted this chart to same question on the FB page but just to sure here it is again. You are correct that in the standard loft settings A1, A2, B1, B2 the face is .5 degrees open. I also agree with Richard A. a slice is usually the swing path cutting across the ball combined with an open face. Think swing to right field with that same slightly open face and now you have a nice little draw.

I have a 910D2 driver, 915F 3 wood, 915H 21 and 816H1 25. I have an inherent fade on my driver and 3 wood so I set them to A3 for a slight draw. My hybrids are set to A2. I play all my long clubs +1.5 upright lie and -1/2" shaft length with extra head weight on the driver and 3 wood and 70 gram shafts on the hybrids. With a 17 or 19 fairway, the setting has been A2.

First step is to correct a slice. For a lefty, if it starts right and then travels left, it is due to an "over the top" swing (outside-in). A push slice starts left and stays left - the swing path is inside out but the clubface is open at impact. Standing too close to the ball and starting the downswing with the upper body are generally the issue with "over the top" ; OTT is also a cause for snap hooks and chunk shots too. As far as a push slice, the hands too far in front at impact open the clubface is one of the issues). Have a pro or a fitter look at your golf swing. The 2nd runner up of Big Break Florida helped me out with a $5 video analysis. I also had a guy at allexperts.com look at a video I took in 2013.
