Hi I have just bought a second hand set of 710 AP1 irons 3 to PW.

    The shafts are DG s300sl

I suspect the shafts have been shortened, the 3i shaft removed is exactly tip to butt 37.5" the specs on this site read 39".

    I currently play my 5i at 38.25".

I have ordered a set of KBS 115g 5.0 firm shafts and wonder when I butt trim these to length at titleist AP1 specs the shafts will be back to standaed length with a tad difference in swing weight.

Am I correct and can anyone tell me what the projected swing weight will be running the KBS shafts both standard factory lenght and .25" over?

Last quesrion, is the removed shaft from a titleist club measured tip to butt the actual length on the factory spec sheet or are they measured from sole to butt with head on?

    Many thanks

This sounds like a good project!  I know it's been a while and you may have already complete the switch, but my prediction is that the KBS will swing weight lighter compared to the original stock.

The clubs are measured by shaft...I'm about 90% sure!

    Howdy,

Yes finished the shaft change about 2 weeks ago, 4 rounds under my belt.

I set the clubs up .75" over factory length and use mid size golf pride multi compound grips 57g to 59g. After using the my clubs pro shop sw scales the trimmed un griped clubs came in at E6 with a bit of fine tuning and using the heaviest grips on the heaviest sw clubs, there was a 2 gram difference between the lightest and heaviest grips themselves; I got all gripped finished clubs in at D3 to D4. I did use 3g of fine lead tape down the back of the butt end of the shafts on the 9i, pw and gw as these 1/4" 9i 1/8" pw and 1/8" gw shorter in their gaps as opposed to the 1/2" length gap from 4i down to 8i. Long story short it has all worked out very well for me and I am enjoying the irons very much, the KBS 5.0 shafts feel real nice, they load and release really smooth and have a ball flight that I like; nice and high but not a hint of ballooning even in the decent on shore sea breezes that grace out beach side links.

    Cheers
