    Hi there,

    I've only recently started to take golf seriously. In 2022 I was fit with a TSI2 Tensei Blue 55s. All year I struggled to keep the ball on the fairway. Yesterday I decided to go to another fitter and get some advice on shafts. My ball speed was 180-185 swing speed around 126 and he couldn't believe I had a stiff flex shaft. He fit me with a Ventus 70x and said he would also consider tipping the shaft.

    I'm looking for some advice on tipping and whether or not it's something I should do. I'm currently getting the shaft put in and may consider tipping at a later date.

    Tipping the shaft will increase the stiffness. You may also lose some "feel" in the shaft if the shaft is too stiff for your swing. At 126mph that may not be an issue for you. Tipping the shaft may also impact ball flight depending on your swing type (steep v shallow). Maybe try the shaft as is and if you need to bring your ball flight down some then consider tipping the shaft.

    Try it without tipping first, and try it for a year. Tipping is fine tuning for better players, and can change the characteristics of the shaft depending on how much is removed. Once it's cut, you can never go back.

    The shaft is an integral part of the club... if the shaft isn't working correctly the head will never make good contact with the ball
    Any good club fitter should be able to advise on shafts

    You must have a really high swing speed, 70x is in the 105-115 range. It is common for PGA Tour players to have their driver shafts and fairway woods tipped.
