I AM LOOKING TO BUY A NEW SET OF IRONS. HAVING YARDAGE LOSS PROBLEMS WITH MY 7.0 RIFFLE SHAFTS IN MY TM R5 IRONS. I HIT THEM FAIRLY STRAIGHT BUT AFTER THREE OPERATIONS ON NECK AND SHOULDERS I STRUGGLE TO MUCH, CAN YOU POSSIBLY HELP ME OUT. THINKING ON GOING TO A LIGHTER STIFF SHAFT, MAYBE A GRAPHITE STIFF SHAFT, AT 63 YEARS YOUNG MY SWING SPEED HAS GONE DOWN TO ABOUT 108 TO 110 WITH MY DRIVER. ANY IDEAS WOULD HELP!

    THANKS, WALT G

NO doubt a 60-70 gram graphite shaft COULD  help increase club head speed over a steel rifle that weighs in the 120 g + or - range. Make sure you have enough loft in your irons which will be a bigger factor. Find a good Titleist fitter - he will have the Tilteist fitting manual with the desired launch and spin rates based on ball speed that will maximize your distances.  also do this outdoors with a launch monitor....

110 driver speed certainly doesn"t warrant 7.0 steel shafts in your irons. You should look to lower your flex profile, this will definitely help load your iron shafts better, increasing your ball speed and the end result  longer more accurate carry . The shaft weight is of little issue, at this point of your golf career a light shaft will create some serious timing issues. I would wait on the graphite shafts until your swing speed comes down and your strength is gone.
