I'm looking to upgrade from a 909 D2.  I hit the 910 D3 with the RIP 60 recently and got a real nice penetrating drive with very little sideways movement even on mis-hits.  I really prefer the D3 to the D2 (mainly on looks at address and feel in the swing) but I seem to be getting feedback that unless I'm playing off scratch I need to stick to the D2.  I play to a 5 & hit a pretty good drive.  I'm interested to know if anyone playing off a 5 (or thereabouts) is hitting the D3 and what they think of it?  Is it too much club for a 5 marker?

Launch monitor, outdoors, good fitter using Pro V1 golf balls to fit with. Only way to do it -- check the spin rates.

don't depend on just comments, threads here - seek the above mentioned criteria.

I would get the D3 if it gives you the ball flight you are looking for.  Both the D2 and the D3 have faster ball speeds than the 909 and the 910D3 has a 10% larger max ball speed area than the 909D3.  The D3 was created for the player that wanted to flight it slightly lower with less spin and it sounds like that was what you were looking for.   I hit both the D2 and the D3 and chose the D3 because it gave me the flight I wanted.  (love my D3!).

I just purchased the 910 D3 and I am not a scratch golfer. I went out Sunday and got fitted for it. I hit the D2, but I got too much spin and too high of a launch angle (about 16-17*). The D2 lowered it to about 13*. I can't wait to get out and use it on the course.

Thanks for the feedback.  Just purchased the 910 D3 (Proforce V2 76 shaft).  Got to say how good the Titleist fitting system is, tried about 5 different shafts, both the D2 and D3, different settings etc really got a good work out in there.  By the end was hitting bombs, cant wait for the D3 to arrive.  Good on ya Titleist and thanks to all who replied & gave good advice.

If the D3 gives you the best #'s...play it. I'm a 5 hcp and play the 910 D3 (w/ Fubuki 73 X5CT shaft) and it works perfect for me. I picked up about 25 yards with the D3 over the D2 because of the lower spin and for me there is very little difference in forgiveness.

I too am a 5 hcp and am currently hitting a 8.5* D3 with the 63g Fubuki Alpha stiff shaft. I am hitting my drives longer and straighter  than ever and for the first time in a long time, I am actually getting the ball to roll out for quite a few extra yards. Absolutely love my D3!!

I had the 909D2 with the stock Diamana shaft in R-flex (bought without being fitted as I have always hit the R-flex). I wasn't happy with the consistency. Decided to get fitted and based on my results, fitter told me I would be money ahead to stay with what I had as the numbers weren't significantly better. I focused on my mechanics and swing flaws and got to hitting the ball much better. I them decided to hit a 909D3 and liked the flight vs the D2. Had a chance to buy a 909D3 head and had my fitter shaft it with UST Proforce V2 R-flex (as I had hit one before and liked the shaft). That combo got the consistency I was looking for. Since I changed from the 909D2 to the 909D3, I have been hitting fairways at a 75% clip, and my misses are acceptable. The 909D3 gave me a better flight path and the shaft gave me a higher rate of consistency. I am a single digit handicap, but far from a scatch golfer. The D3 was a better choice for my swing and made me a better player. Sold the D2.
