  1. Switching from 710 AP2  to new 712 MB's later this year...love the feel of the MB.  Question for Titleist expert...am using semi-lightweight (111 g.) Nippon NS Pro 1150gh tour w/AP2.  Does MB require a heavier shaft (DG or Project X) for optimum MB clubhead performance??  The Nippon 970 or 1050 is a little lighter weight (98 g. to 105 g.) and smooth feel, but I wonder if the MB is made for a heavier shaft to perform best...knowledgable opinions??  Thanks very much (I'm 54 but strong, but was thinking of a lighter weight shaft with mid-high trajectory...maybe also Project X flighted?)

Hi Steve!  I would think any shaft will do, as long as you are fit!  :)

There are many lightweight options but the Project X is relatively heavy compared to the 110 gram shafts.  There may be some attractive new shafts that you should try from KBS later this fall.  You never know!

  3. Thanks Ryan.  Funny you mention KBS.  I've talked to some skilled golfers and researched a'plenty, and I keep hearing the accolades of KBS Tours.  I'm on my way tomorrow to Roger Dunn and hit some KBS tours.  Do you expect a new KBS shaft later this year??  Are you "in the know" ??  Thanks very much.  Steve

There is a new Project X competitor called the C-Taper that is already available.  I expect Titleist will follow Stricker's lead and put them in the shaft matrix very soon.  :)

  5. Getting fit and hitting the different shafts is mandatory - feel is only determined through hitting shots. Even shafts of the same specs can produce different feel.

The KBS C-Taper is coming soon and is worth a look if you prefer a lower flying and spinning flight.

We also have a True Temper Dynalite XP coming that offers specifications similar to the Nippon 1050. Look for these in fitting carts late this year.

Let Cathi or Nick at Team Titleist know if you are looking for a fitter in your area - we can help you find an expert who has the right tools and knowledge to make the shaft decision a well-considered one.

    Steve,

A good Titleist fitter will be able to tell you which shaft and head combination works best for  you.  Titleist has a great set of charts based on thousands of golfer testing that tells us what launch and spin is best for your ball speed.  Once you get in this range of acceptable ball flight then it may come down to your feel and preference.
However, to do this best you need to be outside hitting off grass, using a launch monitor and using Pro V1 golf balls.  Also, never forget this -- the head of club will always have more effect on ball flight than the shaft.  Be it the model type, lie angle, off-set, CG location, hosel setting......  And of course none of those have as much effect on the ball flight as your swing....

I have just changed from Normal KBS Tour to the KBS C typer. I am 51 yrs old and SS of 105 to 107. The C typer is lighter then normal KBS. The ball flight is slightly lower and the spin rate lower. I gained about 1/2 club in length but the feel is very soft. it is not wippy but the feel is soft. This is a great shaft. My personal view is that the CB will work well with them or maybe CB 4 to 6 iron and MB 7 to pw.
