The only reason I play the Pro V1x is because I want to reduce the spin on my drives and it seems like switching from the Pro v1 to the Pro V1x helped with that. I can still hit a draw and fade with my irons though. I still put considerable spin on the ball with my short irons too...I played a couple weeks ago and couldn't keep the ball on the green if the pin was near the front because it would spin back off.

If I were you I'd buy a sleeve of Pro V1's and play half a round with those and play the other half with the Pro V1x and see what you like the most. I don't know what handicap you are, but I'm an 8.4 and can work the ball pretty well with the x. It would actually be fun for me to do what I suggested...I haven't played the Pro V1 in quite a few years.

I'm hesitant to switch because of the inconsistency with the driver as well...that's probably the biggest reason I use the x.

The majority of PGA professionals use the PROV1x golf ball, and they can work the ball very well.  I recommend trying both to see which one you like more.  The main determining factor will probably be feel.

You will in fact get more spin with the V1 which will make it easier to start, getting after those draws and fades. However because the V1 offers more spin your tee shots mainly driver will generate more spin which would turn those into hooks and slices. Swing speed is not as important as it once was considered to be. Hope this helps, and good luck. Either way they're both great balls!!!

I'm a ProV1x player for the same reasons.

However, I was one this year's test-ball participants and was given what appears to be the new 2015 ProV1. I found it's driver spin to be less that previous ProV1 versions. This ball launched lower off of the driver and it performed very well in the wind. And as you would suspect, its short iron performance was stellar. And I found the long- and mid-iron performance to be similar to the ProV1x. It almost seemed like a tweener between the 2014 ProV1 and ProV1x ...?

Next spring I would strongly suggest doing a side-by-side comparison between the 2015 balls. I know I will be. Would love to hear what you decide on?

I am so glad Jeff responded, as I was also a ball tester but had no idea what ball it was.  If it is the new Pro V1, it is the best ball I have ever played.  In context, I am a single digit senior female player, with a much slower swing speed than you, and have not liked any of the Titleist balls in recent years, so I had switched mostly to bstone and had to cast around for a ball. 

I realize this is a bit off topic from your perspective, but I would like a more little information relevant to women golfers and equipment testing for them, gets published or posted, so I wanted to chime in for any women that might be exploring this topic of Pro V1 or V1x.

You need to try playing both and see how they work for you. Try hitting the same shot with two different balls while you're playing on a day that maybe you're behind a slow group or there's nobody out there. Personally, I fond that I hit the V1 farther on my drives, not sure if it's some fluke or just how I swing, but that's what has worked best for me on most days. As far as wedges are concerned, the balls are the same around the green.

You could keep your eyes on the Titleist calendar for a ball fitting event and see what they say about you. They use a Trackman and measure your ball flight and spin for different clubs and different distances.

Great question and a lot of great feedback so far! The one thing I would also add is that we don't recommend focusing a golf ball fitting or trying to find the right golf ball for your game based on swing speed. When you think about it, the golf ball simply reacts to the force applied at impact. Another important factor to consider is that a golf ball must perform for all golfers of all swing speeds on all shots. If it doesn’t, it won’t perform for any golfer.

I love what Mike had to add!! I used to get caught up in the Pro-V or The X model and it seemed that I tried to hard to find the difference. One I stopped focusing on the differences and trying to nip pick the balls apart I found that the X works the best for me!! I went as far as putting and chipping on my lunch breaks. I really can tell that the X is better off the driver and the the pro-v works better for short irons but for the whole game the X seemed to fit the bill. So I guess my advice is try not to over think it and put them in each scenario and the answer will come out!!

Thanks.  I guess putting my swing speed in the original post was meant to address whether I was compressing the ball in a way that it should be.  However, after doing research on this site and the feedback from others it appears that isn't as important as other things.  Thank you so much for the input. i am playing tomorrow and will try both and will at some point go through a fitting.  Thanks again.

I just did the same thing this past season, moved from the pro v1x to pro v1 because I liked the softer feel. What I experienced was more draw on my drives which turned into hooks when I got to handsy off the T. I made the move back to the Pro v1x for more consistency off the T.

Hey Chris, I play the V1 and I have a normal ball flight of a draw that consistently gives me top spin on the drives and irons. When it comes to the short irons and wedges i see less spin at times and more of drop and stop that sometimes is good but sometimes bad. I have also experienced with the V1x and have seen more spin with the wedges than with the V1 so if this helps any, i guess it just depends on what your looking for. Spin for the V1 on the drives and long irons, and a lot of spin on the green with the V1x

Opposite of my experience.  I see more spin on all shots with the V1.  Tried the new "test" balls and they seemed to be in between to me as well though I wasn't playing great on a colder than avg day.

I play both balls sometimes and I am able to work the ball pretty easy with both. I would stick with the ball you know best.

I play both balls, and for me the x is longer. I play the v1 when it's very dry and greens are very firm.

I found the Pro V1 and Pro V1x played very similar off the driver ... the thing I noticed most (at least for my game) was the the Pro V1 would hit the green and advance a little, where the Pro V1x often hit and spun back to the place of impact (or further on a downhill slope).

I think both balls are very equal when it comes to shaping your shot.

I have been playing Golf since the summer of 1964 and have experienced every club and ball in existence and every with one set of irons that are Beryllium Copper, one set that is Aluminum Bronze tour blades from Yamaha, the Yamaha Secrets from 1990 that are pure Carbon, some TA 845's from 1992 and custom built Golfsmith clubs from 2001 I have found that there is not that much difference between the Pro-V1x and the Pro-v except that from about 30 to 40 yards in from the pin there is nothing ever made in existence that will touch a Titleist PRO-V1 as for bite and predictability! Don't bother using any ball outside of a Titleist including the NXT, Velocity and DT Solo! You're wasting your time and money! Titleist Rules!!!! I'd love to be on their team and develop newer balls especially a practice ball (Basically Plastic) that would go a much shorter distance but still have the workability of a regular ball especially with all the newer golfers that have limited practice area but are not able to make it to the course that day due to time constraints or room to get it done!!! Dude keep up with Titleist and half the battle is done!!!!
