I noticed Golf Pros mark their ball when they open a sleeve during the tournament.  In other words do not mark until the very last minute.  I mark my balls before I head out to play, back at the house.  Is that wrong?

No, you are good.  Most of us DO mark our golf balls at home, either right after we buy them, or when loading our bags up for a round.

The pros get boxes of new golf balls left in their locker every day by their reps, and mark them at the beginning of their rounds.

I usually wait to mark mine when I pull it out to play.  Not for any real thought out reason.  I just don't usually take the time to mark them before I leave home.  And since it doesn't slow down my day on the course, I haven't felt the need to change.

I pre-mark 4 dozen at start of the season. Dozen Prov/Provx 10's and dozen each of 25's. Then usually Mark one on the putting green before each round. Why 10's and 25's. My anniversary of coarse.

I love this idea. but how do you choose which to play with 10 or 25 ???

I do the same thing. No particular reason, just before I put the ball in play is when I mark it.

I also mark my balls before I get to the course. Would hate to get to the course one day and find out I forgot.

I mark my ProV1 at the beginning of the season. This way there ready when I need them.

There is no right or wrong time to mark your ball, just as long as you mark it. Watch out for those players that say "I'm playing a Titleist number suchandsuch, and proceed to hit your ball without first examining it for their markings. This makes me shake my head. A Pro V looks different than a DT Solo, or NXT, and so forth, based on dimple patterns. However, most players are not that discerning, so mark your ball like you own it and mark them well!

I mark my golf ball as soon as I open them. If I buy a dozen over the winter (like I did this year) I open them and mark them as soon as they are brought home. If I buy a sleeve at the course, I open them and mark them before the round starts.

I always mark my golf ball when I take it out of the sleeve. Fortunately I don't lose balls often and will play a ball until it gets scuffed, therefore; I don't think I slow play any.

As soon as I get a new box, I sit at the kitchen table with a sharpie and on of those marking template thingies

If I'm bored and thinking of golf related things to do to waste some time, I mark at home or to procrastinate from doing any sort of work. Otherwise, I mark them as needed on the course. I use two stars, one blue the second green, above the Titleist logo on ProV1s. However, I also play ProV1x from time to time when I'm in the mood (or feelin' sassy), so I mark them with the same two stars, but in reverse order, green then blue, so I don't confuse them with Pro V1s. Works for me.

I like marking my golf balls right before I start my round. It makes me feel like I am starting the day fresh and getting ready for hopefully a great round

"just wondering" My golf balls are marked as soon as I get them. Always with a blue dot next to the three logos. Do you remember Sylvania flash bulbs? "blue dots for sure shots". Works for me sometimes! shots"

I actually let my daughters mark them for me... Each has their own way of making and I'm certain to never have to worry about anyone having the same mark as me...

I do the same as Gabriel G. I mark the balls at home prior to putting them in my bag

I only mark one ball at a time, and keep two balls at a time in my pocket while playing (one marked, one unmarked). That way when I lose the marked ball, I know of lost the oldest one that's been played the most.

Being a total geek - I have one of those spinny things that supposedly finds the centre line of the ball, which I mark with a fine point blue sharpie. Then my Nickname in purple, C$ - on opposite sides of the ball. I do this whenever I get a new box of balls, nowadays only a couple times a season. I do find the "aim line" really does help with putting and off the tee to stick to my lines, but does the centre finder actually make a difference? I would like to think so.. Any comments?
  21. I mark mine right after I get them and then if need be put a sleeve in my bag and it is there when I go and play. When I go to play I always spent 30 minutes on the range, 10 minutes chipping and 10/15 minutes putting with my new balls that are already marked.
  22. Unlike the rest of us, most pros don't see the balls they are playing with before the first tee. So that's why they mark 'em then.

I mark my prov 1 with a black dot over the first whole dot over the 2nd T in Titleist. I have got a lot of balls back at the course, because everyone knows my mark. So it is a good thing to do. I

As I spin balance my golf balls, I mark at home. I use a red dot at the balance point, and then add a larger number in black, which is the same as the ball I'm playing, the way Stan Utley described in one of his books. It made sense to me as the number written in sharpie next to the number on the ball is noticeable in the rough etc and minimizes the chance of me or anyone else hitting the wrong ball.

I only mark them before I put them into play . So I have to mark about 3-4 per round. My game sucks!
