That's strange. I have a set (4) of small multi-colored sharpies that I received as a promotional when I bought some Titleist golf balls some 5 years ago and they are all still going strong. I only use them for marking my golf balls and I play a lot of golf too. Do you leave the caps on them? Doing so will increase the life greatly.

Sorry, I meant the color of the sharpie fades on the ball. Seems like every time I touch up the color with a sharpie, I lose the ball on the next hole, so I don't do that anymore haha

Funny, I sometimes have the same feeling about using the ball washer by the tee box. I always feel like I'm just cleaning it for the guy who finds it next week.

Seriously, I too use Sharpies and the marks fade fairly fast. I just retouch them up a number of times a round. Since I like to see where exactly I hit each drive on the clubface, I tend to place the ball on the tee with the mark facing the back center. After my drive I look at the clubface and can see where the mark contacted it, as it typically transfers from ball to face. However, this, of course, will fade the mark much quicker. I carry my Sharpies in my bag in the same pocket I keep my ProVs.

Hi Travis -- I use the following permanent markers (see my photo below). The Staedtler permanent "Lumocolour" pens seem to last a bit longer than the Sharpie versions.

When my colours dull, then I just remark them. I suppose you could spray them with something like a silicone spray or even a urethane spray ... but it could change the ball's characteristics and performance and in the case of urethane -- require additional precautions.

See it on occasion, but usually when I hit the ball on the mark . I can see the telltale sharpie marks on the clubface when this occurs. Also see it after putting the ball in the course ballwash station as well.

I use a fine point Sharpie to mark my golf ball. I keep it in my bag and use it only for that purpose. Yes, the color does fade somewhat during the course of play for 15 - 18 holes. That seems to be normal. So I go over the mark again to refresh the color. In fact, that means that I must be playing pretty well when I have to refresh the color.

I just get the balls imprinted from Titleist when I order them. No need to mark your ball with a sharpie and the imprint from the factory is always there. You can now do a lot of customization on your ball with the My Pro V1 Experience.

I'm the same as Mike C. Get your special number, and imprint on the side, (initials etc., and now with several chances through the year). The only time you need the Sharpie is to make a mark on the second one, if the first has gone slightly awry, and it's provisional time. Otherwise, haven't found anyone else ordering from Titleist the same combo yet.

What are you using to clean these balls? I mark um 1 time and I see no difference after 3 rounds. I retire them after 3 rounds and they all look good"markings wise". Plain water only.

I have been using the sharpie "super permanent" markers. I use the red to mark my ball and it has been decent as long as it's not where i strike the ball

Black has been my go to aiming line and it usually lasts a round before remarking but i do play in a sand golf course
