did you know an x'd out golf ball is not on the conforming golf ball list. u can't play it if you play in any tournament that requires a conformfing ball. food for thought. i don't think this was one of the new prototypes that every one was trying. congrats on your best round

  4. almost PGA Tour Player use new version PRO V1X balls. older version Pro V1X that not conforming for tournament. thank you.

  5. SAM,

The X-OUT ball is generally one that did not pass a quality control test at the factory.  Sometimes it can be as simple as a misprint on the cover or something like the cover is the wrong thickness.  There is no way to know for sure what caused the ball to be rejected, but there is something that didn't measure up.  For the most part they play pretty well, but  don't try to play them in a tournament.  The new balls that were sent out for consumer trials are generally shipped out in plain whit boxes and have TEST printed on them.  But don't worry, from what I hear they'll be on the market soon.

    Hi Sam,

Pro V1x golf balls are on the USGA's conforming golf ball list.

I believe Jim was making reference to "X-Out" golf balls which usually have a cosmetic blemish and/or occasionally have a minor physical defect that should not significantly affect its performance. More often than not, the physical condition causing the ball to be stamped as an X-Out is so minute that it is not recognizable by the player.

X-Out golf balls may be used in the casual round of golf including those with scores posted for handicaps, and most competitions, with the possible exception of high level competitions invoking the Local Rule requiring balls to be on the List of Conforming Golf Balls. Here is a link to some more information which also includes the USGA's Official Rules on the subject:

Thanks for settling all the confusion.

  8. Is there any difference between Pro v1 X-OUTS and the Pro v1 misprints I've seen being sold?
