Alright Titleist you win now. Over the past 3 years i will admit i have tried to advoid playing the balls and still have not played any of the clubs yet. I will admit i will not be changing the brand of my irons and woods along with my putter because well i am used to the flat stick and dont want to hurt my game by changing it now. But my question is now that im playing the NXT Tour and Pro V1 i am using conforming grooved Cleveland CG15 wedges in 56 and 60. I hit them the normal distance i usually do, sand wedge 115 and lob wedge 100. Now my biggest complaint is the new grooves on them just seem to not let the ball spin around the greens in pitch and flop shots like the old grooves, i have tried more aggressive swings and all but it just dose not want to do more than hit and release about a foot. Now my question for you Titleist is the Vokey. Dose it have more control on spin around the greens than most wedges including the Cleveland wedges. I have had nothing but great performance with Cleveland clubs but i want higher traction around the greens with conforming grooves. Dose the Vokey have that much more spin on half swings, flop shots, pitch, ect? Or should i try a Vokey out and see if i like the difference in weight and feel along with performance? Thanks Titleist.

I actually got rid of my new CG 16's because I spun the ball too much! Went with the conforming Tour S Wedge and like them however, I have the Vokey SM4's on order. If you are having trouble spinning a wedge (even a new conforming wedge) you aren't going to spin anything. Do you NEED conforming grooves? Are you playing in some professional tournaments? Amatures don't need to "conform" until 2024.

Im gearing up to chase my tour card and want to use all conforming equipment so needing conforming grooves is standard. Yes i can go a year more with none conforming but why not get used to them already?

Mannequin, The newer clubs now have specific wedge shafts. The shafts on your clubs could be to soft tipped. I personnally use mizuno 60.8 and 54.9 wedges with gold true temper wedge shafts and have no trouble spinning the prov 1x. I suggest that you compare what you played before(old groves) to new groves in a side by side comparison. That is the only way you will know if it is the clubs, the groves or just something between your ears. Vincent A

I had CG15 DSG 58 and 64. The Vokey 64-07 is a much better X wedge than the CG15 DSG 64. The DSG 58 had a limitation - didn't fare well off tight lies and that is why I went to a 60-07. I replaced the SM 60-07 and 64-07 with a SM cc 62-07 since it does what both wedges do put together (the limitation of the 60-07 is soft bunkers and the 64-07 is tight lies). My opinion is Vokeys are better, hands down. I also had 588 and CG10 wedges quite some time ago and just DIDN'T LIKE THEM. I have a 54-11 c-c (bent to 55) and 62-07. The 62-07 is great both in soft and tight lies (and works equally well in soft and hard/wet sand). As far as PW, I hate to say it, but there isn't a thing on the market that can compare with my Ping Eye 2 yellow dot PW (I just had it reshafted to TT Lite XL r flex). I'm still doing a shootout between the DCI 981 and Eye 2 6-PW (have both sets dialed in), along with tossing my Louisville 34H in the mix.

Well.... change that to a Vokey Spin-Milled 50-08. Got one used today at Golf Galaxy CHEAP. Love the way it hits (and it worked better than the Eye 2 or DCI 981 P).

both good tips i will have to look into it a little more hands on and the shaft well i will look more into that too.

    I have cc's for the 54 and 62. If I really like the 50-08, I may end up getting a 50-08 cc.

I just got the 50-08 cc last night (traded the 50-08 and a used TP 2009 2/17 H and $36), had it adjusted before leaving the store and got comfortable with it in rapid fashion. As of late, my short game has pretty much been a 51-09 (used a DCI 981 for a while, then the 50-08 with box grooves and now the 50-08 cc) mainly due to soft greens that are two tiered with the pin further back. I switched from CG15 DSG 58 and 64 to Vokey 60-07 and 64-07 last year when I started varying the golf courses with different conditions. The CG15s were great on grassy lies but not so hot on tight lies. I recently replaced the 60-07 and 64-07 with a 62-07; while both clubs produced great shots, limitations were bunkers for the 60 (OK in hard but not in soft) and tight lies for the 64 (had to deloft it so much that I might as well use the 60). Oh yeah.... for all of you hybrid fans.... my 7 wood totally smoked the 2H!

The Cleveland wedges were the staple of my bag until I got the pleasure of getting fit by Titleist.  During the process I wasn't really looking for the change in wedges, but the Vokey wedge preformed better than my Clevelands did.  I picked up a 60* because with my new  set I eliminated the three iron and had room for an extra wedge.  I opted for the Vokey and I'm glad I did.  They just play so much more consistently.  I've upgraded all my wedges from Cleveland to Vokey and I don't regret it one bit.  However, you'll never know until you try it for yourself.

Never cared for Cleveland gap or sand wedges ANYWAY. My do-it-yourself SW performed a lot better out of bunkers. My first-ever Vokey was a 258-12 and it worked pretty well for the courses I played on (I didn't know about lie angles at the time). I didn't like the SM 48-06 or 58-12 cc. I love the 50-08 (bent to 51), the 54-11 (bent to 55) and the 62-07 to death and they are dialed in (the 50 lie angle is 64.75, the others are 65).

See what you can do with the NXT(ionomer cover). Wilson calls it "green grabbing ionomer"(C:25). Callaways ionomer doesn't grab the green(hx diablo tour).

With the old ProV1 I did 1 hop and stop, the new PV1 I can't do it. So I went on a search.

The C:25 compares to the NXT from full swing to short game, but when it comes to putting.....you have to hit the ball noticeably harder, and the ball seems to get knocked off line by a blade of grass. Both of these problems I believe come from very shallow dimples.

The Cally, it putts good, but it is lacking everywhere else.

The only ionomer covered ball that truely competes with the NXT is.............NXT Extreme, basically the same ball, same core and cover materials, the cover is slightly thicker and the core is slightly smaller.

You'd think that a thicker cover and smaller core would stop faster and not fly as far........I got opposite effect, and the biggest distance gain is with the short irons. In fact I'm going to get another dz Extremes and give them a good side by side test.

well ill agree with you on this i use the C:25 every now and then because i started out using all Wilson Staff equipment and the Tx4 balls or the Zip, what ever i could get my hands on. The C:25 can stop on the greens with a hop and stop with my 8-56* full shots. But im also cranking on it with spin, pretty much enough to get a tour ball to back up 10 feet. I still use the C:25 as a training ball. I use it because of the lessened spin but flight and distance like the NXT Tour. Using the C:25 forces me to focus more on controlling the ball in every condition BUT it still for some reason has spin off the tee like the NXT Tour. I tried that HX Diablo Tour, it was great off the tee, distance, control, untill it came to shots into and around the green. Just seemed like the cover didnt want to stick at all and ran out a lot and had no durability. And to the rest on my testing i found i get the same Pro V1 performance out of the Srixon Z-Star but a great gain in spin on partial swing shots. I got that baby to back up 13 feet on a 15 yard flop shot over a bunker into a tight pin placement.

PS. I dont want my ball to back up 20 feet on my green shots. I want that option to be there but hop and stop and have total control with little effort so i can focus more on my swing that if i am giving it enough "umph" to do what i need to. Thats why i train several rounds with low spin or short range balls. My Swing speed is 110, index is 14, strong points are my short game, weak points fairway woods, and i have a swing like Paddy, and i have a aggressive play like Phil
