17 degrees would be 1 iron/4 wood (or Strong 5). A 2 iron and 5 wood are the same. I also have AP1 6-PW and four Vokeys (50-54-58-62). I currently carry a 13* draw driver, 7W, 5H and 7H (I've always carried some sort of an "approach" hybrid as a back up to the 6 and 7 irons since 2006 and they come in handy). For a year before I got the 5H, I carried a persimmon 10 wood (28.5) and I totally abused it (it was my go to club between 150-165). Recently I took the 10W and put a shaft extension on it with a heavier grip to lower the swingweight; I hit it this morning at the park and was carrying it 170 (I may bring it as. I shoot around 85 for 18 holes. Jonathan - let them scoff! We'll just take them to school. You learn a lot about golf by playing with seniors (now I am one being almost 55). How you get on the dance floor doesn't matter; fewest strokes matter (working smarter and not harder is the phrase). I played golf with an elderly gentleman in 2007 and he wasn't a horribly long hitter (used a 4H at 165-170 yards) but he it down the middle just about all the time and his score at the end of the 9 holes was 3 strokes over par. I also learned the dollar bill drill for sand shots from another elderly gentleman. My stepmother is 78 and she uses a 7H and shoots in the mid 90s. I also remember someone saying he was too young at age 30 to be using a 7 wood. There are a couple PGA pros here and there that carry one (Appleby used one at one time). There are a couple LPGA pros (and I would say that most of them out drive the majority of the male population) that carry an 11 wood or a 6H. I can hit a 3 hybrid OK but I just maul the daylights out of a 7 wood.

The Titleist clubs are sold individually.  There are many responses here on buying AP2/CB/MB mixes.  When I got my AP1s over Christmas, I was considering 6-9 only (never liked the 5/PW in other irons sets, but my fitter talked me into both.  The 5 was genius as it is equal/exceeds the 5H I was using.  I have 48/54/58 wedges and the 45 PW is very close to the 48 (old PW was 44).  Will need to get fitted to see if I should adjust the 48 to 49/50.  The point being I could have just gotten the 4 irons.  The primary reason besides the fitter thinking the 5 would help me was to get at least 6 clubs for resale as a set.

I like my 4H, otherwise I might be tempted to get the 4I.  ...Whatever works.

The 27 degree hybrid is roughly equivalent to a 5I.  The question is, what will your distance be with it?  In my case, with my old set of irons, my 4I went no further than my 5I - a limit of my swing characteristics.  A 4H launches higher and therefore longer than my 5I/4I.  The new hybrids launch higher and land softer than the comparable iron, so for some, the distance may be a little less, but if you land it on the green, it won't roll through to the next tee box.  Also, in my case, a 7W is easier to hit than a 19H with about the same distance.  My AP1 5I is very workable and I'm ok with a 24 degree hybrid in place of 4I.  It won't be worth getting a 4I to see if it will match the hybrid.

The use of hybrids and woods for mid to long irons is certainly a workable strategy and especially for slower swingers.  Lou has made a science of knowing his distances with what clubs and has worked out a plan for him.  You won't be able to just mix and match just from a catalog without some trial and error from a launch monitor.  Flight, landing, and comfort of hitting will all be personal preference.
