    Pretty close.

The 2 hybrid has almost the same shaft length and lie angle as a 7 wood.

    Distance-wise pretty close.

Some people (self included) find it easier to hit a 5 wood.

Your swing motion may help decide.  "Sweepers" don't do as well with a hybrid trying to dig out a ball down in the rough.  In that case, they really are pretty close.  The hybrid can rescue a ball in the rough if your swing is steep enough.  I'm even older than Lou and I do better with the woods than hybrid.  Being a sweeper with a slower swing.  I have a 24 degree hybid because there aren't many 9Ws available, especially for left handers.  So I do better with 21/17 degree woods than 3/2 hybrids.

9 woods are getting harder to find these days, even for right handers.   If one prefers lofted woods, the choice is Louisville Golf (for persimmons) or one of the vendors that carries Super Concord clubs or heads (a Tight Lies clone - and they make them up to a 15 wood).   Pinemeadow Golf has a line of clone clubs called "Yukon" that offers up to a 15 wood.

I played with a 975F 16.5 and 20.5 between 2007-2010 (my dad gave them to me for my Big Five Zero).  I also had a period of wood experimentation for the first part of 2010 (tried some Warbirds and Big Bertha 2K4) and ended up playing with a 980F 3 wood, Louisville Golf 5/21 and 10/28.5 persimmons until the end of the year (actually shot 42 first time out at Riverwalk Mission with the 980F and two persimmons).  I've been using a Burner 7 wood since the first week of 2011.

The major vendors don't carry anything more lofted than a 7 wood for men mainly because of the push to sell hybrids.   I carried a 9 wood of some form between 2006-2010 and even used the Ely Would (11 wood) in early 2010.  I still have a persimmon 10 wood and 34* hybrid that I bought new from Louisville Golf  in mid 2010 and used them up until the middle of last year (when I got an SQ 5/26 hybrid); I even used the 34H up until I got the AP1s this year (mainly because I couldn't hit the Eye 2 6 iron or  7 iron too well).   The combination of the Burner 7 wood and either the Louisiville 10 wood or SQ 5/26 hybrid has been pretty good.

I just upgraded my wood and hybrids to Superfast 5-18 fww, 4-21 and 6-27 hybrids (got the 5W and 4H on clearance at Golf Galaxy for $86 cash back in March and it really was painful parting with the 7 wood and the SQ hybrid; got the 6-27 used back in May).   The 4-21 swings like my 10 wood (shaft lengths and lie angles are close) but I get 10 more yards; it is the first 4H I have been able to hit properly.   I took the 6-27, my 10 wood and AP1 6 iron out to the range this morning and they all got about the same distance but the 6-27 is much easier to work and more forgiving.   I also took the 34H and my AP1 7 iron out to the range yesterday and the latter just totally blew away the hybrid.  The 5 wood actually hits better than my trusty old 7 wood did.

I still have the Louisville 5 wood but I only take it to the range since the 4H hits better.

  5. I have a Mashie 5W and Mashie 2h, both 18 degrees. I hit the 5W lower, more roll and overall distance, 10-15 yards maybe. I hit the 2h higher and it stops quicker. I usually carry the 2h because I used it to replace both my 2 iron and 3 iron (choke down on the grip, shorten my backswing a little). I carry the 5W when I play certain courses with long par 5's that I need the extra distance to try to reach the green in 2.

    Hope this helps.

Concur with Dan's comment on wood and hybrid with same loft.   I had a Burner 7 wood and tried out a Rescue 4H one time.   The wood hits farther by 10 yards.  I actually hit a 7 wood the same distance as a 17* hybrid.   I also hit the wood with a little higher trajectory.

I also found that an 18* 5 wood is a lot easier to hit vs an 18* 3H.   I was doing a side by side when purchasing my clubs.

It becomes the opposite when comparing a 9 wood vs a 5H.   I find the 5H easier to hit and it goes just as far.

    I also hit a 6H farther than a 6 iron.   I hit a 7 iron farther than a 34H.

Here's something else to chew on...... TW uses a 16* 3 wood and a 19.5* 5 wood.   The latter is loft in between a standard 5 wood (18*) and 7 wood (21*).  His fitting chart was posted on Facebook recently.

I just picked up a 910F 19 fairway with Bassara 55 g A flex shaft used. Shortened it to 41.5" (Winn Excel RF midsize grip) and set it to C3.  Perfect trajectory (small draw).  Got rid of my Superfast 5W and 4H in trade.

I prefer a 2 hybrid, it's easier for me to hit (and I loved my 5 wood). I agree that it depends of your swing speed and if your a digger or sweeper... I like to swing hard sometimes and I'm a digger, so a 2 is perfect for me. But one thing that I found that made the decision for me is that I feel my 2 hybrid is VERY versatile, I can hit baby draws when I want and big cuts when I need to. And I've found it to be very reliable from the rough (being that you need to swing down on it a bit). I've upgraded from a G5 18* 5 wood, to my 910H 19* and VERY happy with my Titleist, workable, reliable, and amazing feel.

After a little bit of abuse at the driving range, my 910F 19* works very well.  The way I have it set up, it is only an inch longer than the 910H 19*.    The beauty of it is that I can hit if off a very tight lie and hit choke down shots with it.  As far as plowing through the rough, I can do that pretty well with a wood.

I also like the ball flight better than my Superfast 5-19 or 2007 Burner 7-21 fairways.  I could smash these two but main issue was a very high trajectory and a little bit of a fade.  They did, however, outdistance a G10 17* 4 wood and the main issue I had with it (I tried it out but returned it to the store under a 90 day guarantee) was the lie angle was a bit flat.  C3 setting brings the 910F to same lie angle and face angle of the two TM fairways.

My favorite hybrid in my golf bag is 27*.   I have the ability to swing away with it and also be able to treat it like I would a wedge (pitching, long chip shots and so on).   I also have a 34* hybrid in my bag and I find it much easier to plow through the rough vs a 7 iron.
