Does anyone have any insight as to how the new Utility irons will compare to hybrids. I have not been able to hit my 910H 19 degree and would replace it if I could get hit hit a 19 degree Utility Iron better.

    Any thoughts

the Utility Iron should provide a lower more boring ball flight.

I believe that unless you are a low handicap player you should stick with hybrids. The utility iron is made for highly skilled players. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

19 degree would be a Titleist 2 iron. Can you handle a 3 iron and a 3W ...like butter...?  If not, you may want to try a 19 FW before a utility iron.  Some skilled players don't prefer a hybrid, but for the rest of us the the 712 U is more than we can handle.

I agree with Don.  If you are struggling with a 19H, try a 19F.    I found out 7 years ago that I hit a 7 wood much better than a 3H.

I carry driver, 19F (set at 20.5), 9 wood (23) and 27H (set at 28.5).  Works fine.   I finally threw in the towel on trying to hit a 21H and went back to a 9 wood after 3 years (what I had been doing for the 170 distance is choking down on a 21 fairway).

I absolutely agree with the above posters.  I would say the 712U is for the stronger player that's a very good ballstriker. I own a 712U and if you struggle at all with your long irons you'll make the game easier with a 913 hybrid.  Exactly where the H-d hybrid shines... you can still get the low launch, low spin characteristics that the better players often prefer in a more forgiving package.  The 712U is an excellent club and I enjoy mine from the tee and a perfect lie from the turf but it really suites the player that's looking for a higher ball speed, more forgiving alternative to a 712MB or CB long iron.

It really is a great club for what its designed to do but I would guess most players simply don't have enough speed and spin to keep this club in the air.  Titleist has two other fantastic choices in the H and H-d with excellent stock shafts that unless you just don't get along with hybrids you should give a hit to alongside the U.

Ok, My $.02. After my Doc cleared me to play beyond the putting green, I started last season at +18 handicap and finished up my last three rounds at par. I played a minimum of nine holes twice a week (which meant the front 9 over and over again)and spent hours on the range learning each club. My 910H 24 hybrid was the hardest club I ever tried to learn but practice led to a break through. My Pro weighed in with his Trackman analysis and I made the shaft weight and flex changes he recommended 61g or less A flex. GRRReat! Now I have a whole new animal in my bag! I can easily punch out 193+ yds out of my H24* and shot shaping is a breeze. It is my "go to" club on short yardage holes and making tricky layups. Yup, my 910H24 earned a Daphne's Tiger HC. It also lightened my bag by a couple of irons. But that's just me. If your hybrid still hates you after you wear it and yourself out on the range, try the U. I think you can get as good as anything your swinging if you practice with it long enough. Believe me you will know when it's working for you. Especially on a par 5 when you're in two. One or two putt out and you got the mojo. Keep what works and eBay the jerks.

If your looking to get rid of your 910 let me know been looking for a good looking 910 h 19* I tried the 913 and I don't believe there much difference correct me if I'm wrong . Also I have found that people don't hit longer irons to well usually hit woods a lot better. My gf can't hit my long clubs for crap but give her a driver or 3 wood and she'll launch it out there. My .02 is if you can hit a 4 iron cleanly every time hybrid should be no prob. But if you do I'd try the fairway woods

Great info so far.  I don't believe many if any of the members here have had the pleasure of swinging the 712U.

My thoughts are to work with a local pro and get fitted properly for the hybrid or fairway wood.  It might just be a slight adjustment or new shaft that can help you with the current club.  That way may be a lot easier on your wallet.

Closest thing to a 9 wood that Titleist has would be setting the 21F to A3,B3,A4,B4 with 22.5 loft.

I also know of people who can't hit a fairway wood or hybrid but can actually hit a 3 iron pretty well.

I also remember "driving irons" from the 90s (would look like the current utility irons) - 18* loft.  Very hard to hit.

Is the 21F the highest loft Fairway that Titleist makes? I carry a 7 wood and has a 22* loft, so the 21F would still be quite a bit from a 9 wood, but it would still be a great club. BTW: My 7 wood is the most dependable club in my bag. Don't use it much, but it always performes the same.

    If you set the 21F on A3, B3, A4 or B4 it is 22.5*.    Steelhead III 9W is 23^,

Tight Lies 7 woods are 24*

Lou; That would be great for a 9 wood. It's strange how different manufacturer's clubs have different lofts, but they still call them 3W, 5W, 7W etc. I carry a CG 17* 4W, and CG 22* 7W. Guess a person should go by loft rather than what number wood they have.

  14. Guys I'm a handicap golfer and just hook hybrids like crazy, decided to buy a 712u 2 iron and it's simply amazing, off the fairway I can hit 250yards carry and a lot straighter than my hybrid or 3w best thing I done drop hybrid for long irons.

A friend of mine can hit a 3 iron  very well but absolutely struggles with a fairway wood or a hybrid.

I sent a video to a golf pro and he noticed I was straightening my right leg out on the backswing.  2nd set showed I had an overly strong grip.

I now hit a 3 wood very well for the first time since 2006 and can hit a 22H.  I'm still a diehard 7 wood fan and have gotten so spoiled by hybrids that I don't carry anything above a 7 iron and I broke 80 last year.

The Titleist tour van was at my club in Dallas today and they had demos of the 712u for 2, 3, and 4 irons.  I have played the Titleist blades for years and currently am playing the 710mb's.  I also just  bought new 913 woods including a 913h hybrid with a 19degree loft.  I will be 70yrs old in July so I don't have the same club head speed that I did.  Right now it is about 100mph with the driver.  I hit both the 2 & 3 iron 712s with surprising good results. In fact I think they were easier to hit than my mb long irons.  I think they are weighted more on the bottom with a wider sole which made it easier to get the ball in the air. I will keep my hybrid but will probably order a two iron for those windy days in Texas. I will admit I am a traditionalist, but they are good looking club.

I hit both the hybrid and 712 U 3I today while getting fitted for irons.  the Titleist rep recommended 4-pw in the Ap2's and the 712 U 3I.  I hit the 712U 3i better than the Ap2 3i.   I liked the 712U better than the hybrid just on personal preference but hit both well.  I would recommend hitting both at your Titleist dealer as they should have both.  i was very pleased with the 712U it feels really good hitting it.

I would not hesitate having a look at Titleist utility irons. I don't like hybrids I cant work them as well as I can work an iron. Make sure it works with your irons the length you get - as you seem settle on a 19 degrees. Make sure to get fitted especially try different shafts. I have tried the 712U with many different shafts and I do get a very different flights. Might be different for you. good luck Mads
