I am considering switching out my AP2 712 4,5 and 6 irons with new AP1 714  4,5 & 6 irons to gain a little more forgiveness and maybe a few yards extra distance in my mid and longer irons. I love my AP2s and hit the PW, 9i, 8i and 7i very consistently, so really don't want to switch to the AP1s in those irons. However, if I were to replace my AP2 4, 5 & 6 with the AP1s, there would be a pretty sizable gap in loft between the AP1 6i and the AP2 7i. Would it make sense to bend the AP1s a degree or two weaker so the gapping is more consistent between all the irons? Or maybe strengthen the AP2s a degree or two? It's probably better to bend the forged irons rather than the cast irons. How would weakening the loft on the AP1s, combined with the lighter weight stock shafts (95s) affect the playability?

Weakening the AP1s defeats the reason you are putting them into play in the first place. My approach would be to chart the distance gap between the 6 and 7 irons and decide whether it is worth worrying about. If you strengthen the AP2s, you may wind up with a wedge gap where you'll either have to think about adding another wedge or adjusting multiple clubs. Better to have the six seven iron gap and take a little off or hit one harder if necessary.
