So I received lessons about a month ago and really enjoyed it...  One of the things i'm working on is correct posture and it's been interesting to do..   5 minutes a day at home I work on my posture (allows me to keep my head steady and follow through more) so when i get to the course i'm ready to go and not think about it...

Here are my results so far:

    • 6-Gap - no issues at all and IMO i feel like i'm making more solid contacts with my irons at times..
    • 5 irons, hybrid, 3 wood and driver - I'm loss...  Before the lessons, I had my good and bad but working on the new posture with these clubs has been a nightmare..  First few holes I drive the ball ok and then after that it's all push..  Went to the range last weekend to work on it and kept doing the same thing..  I relaxed, set up correctly and push...  So i started choking down on the club and the results were a little bit better...

So I started thinking, what if i cut the shafts..  Researched online and read about the wrist to floor measurements and what the shaft length should be..    My wrist to floor measurement was 32.4" (yes i'm a small person, i thank my parents for that one).  Here's what one chart (wouldn't say they recommended but gave an idea):

5 irons - same shaft as PW

3 wood and hybrid - same shaft as 7 wood

Driver - cut 3" of the std. shaft..

So after careful considerations, I went to a local golf shop and cut the 3W, HYB and Driver.  Left my 5 iron alone..

Got home and tried hitting the driver against my net..   So far I like the feel of it...  Hoping to hit the range soon so i can see the actual flight of the ball..   Hope i did the right thing....

Anyone else out there cut their shaft?  If yes, better or worse results?

    Hi Christopher -

I actually just had a fitting at a Titleist facility and was surprised that the fitter recommended 1/2" shorter clubs.  He explained that it has nothing to do with height, but more swing plane, turf interaction and a boatload of other factors.  But wow, what a difference.  I was always a 2 degree flat player with regular length shafts, but once I switched to the 1/2" shorter irons the dispersion got MUCH tighter.  Amazing that such a little difference can make such a HUGE DIFFERENCE.  The shorter shaft is also a bit stiffer, which helps with dispersion as well.

Good luck and keep us posted!  I ordered my new set of irons, but am cutting my existing 915 hybrids and driver as well down 1/2".

Yes. My whole set of clubs, irons, hybrids, fairways, putter and driver have all been shaved.

Hybrids : 1/2" off / Fairway : 1.0" off / Driver : 2.0". This promotes a slightly lighter club that is much more manageable. Just because the 'standard length' of a driver is 45" doesn't mean you have to use all 45 inches. You're club head speed might see an increase. Good going.
