I'm anxiously awaiting the 915 D2 9.5* driver I ordered, but I'm second guessing the loft I selected.  I tried the 915 earlier in the season and I forgot that it sits .5* open in the A1 setting.  I know that when you increase loft the face angle closes and when you decrease loft the face angle opens; however, this is only the case when you sole the club.  Hovering the club and gripping it with the face square gives you the effective loft…. correct?  Does that also apply to the standard A1 setting?  If I hover the club and grip it so it's square while in the A1 setting is the effective loft still 9.5* or have I lowered the effective loft by doing that?  I like to have a square face with a driver at address and I wondering if I should have went with the 8.5* head and adjusted it to D4 which should come close to squaring it up even while it's soled.

BF:  If you are right handed and the setting is A1 then you will have a neutral setting.  Take a look at the chart below.  B1 would be half a degree open.  You could decrease the loft by .75 to a 8.75 (D1 at a neutral setting) which might help you achieve that lower desired loft.  I personally like the extra loft which decreases the spin and assists me with my distance and accuracy.  I have a 915D2 9.5 set at 10.25 C4 and love it.  My fitter determined this was the right set up and it has worked out fine.  I did open the fact half a degree after the break-in period.  The original setting was D4.  Great club.  cz

Ahhh, I didn't realize the third row was neutral.  I thought the head already sat .5* open in any of those 4 settings.  That's good.  I will most likely end up playing A1, D4 or D1 depending on the trajectory I'm getting.  Thanks

U R WELCOME.  My fitter enlightened me when I purchased my 910D3.  Great guy, friend and like TT, my go to.  He is Titleist certified and a top 100 fitter.

Hi,  If I understand you correctly, you are asking it the third row - A2, B2, A1, B1 is .5° open.  The answer is yes.  .5° open is our standard neutral setting for face angle on all our metalwoods (drivers, fairways, and hybrids) and that includes all 4 settings for the third row.

Cathi:  Now I am confused, I always thought that A4,D4,A1, and D1 were neutral standard settings...I hope I did not misunderstand what my guys was telling me.......

As you look at the chart - A1 is neutral - that means that it is standard lie angle and it is the loft that is stated on the head. Looking at the 16 squares, going up the chart from the A1 row will increase loft, going down the chart to the bottom row is lower loft, going left from A1 column adds more draw (or more upright swing plane) and going to the far right column is more fade (or flatter swing plane).  The column A4, D4, A1, D1 changes the loft and keeps the lie angle neutral or standard.

Just on a side note, is the stock surfeit weight in the 915d2 9grams?  I'm finding it just a touch light and would like to add a couple grams.  Does titleist supply them?  Can a get one if needed since I just purchased a new driver or would I have to pay for one?

  9. Hi Cathi, you say in this thread in a previous comment that A1 is .5* open, but here you say A1 is neutral. Which is correct? And if A1 is neutral, does that mean that every setting except B1 and C1 are neutral or draw biased if you sole the club at address? Many thanks
  10. Cathi why was the chart changed from the 913 to the 915? Does it have anything to do with the settings?
I would like to keep my 915 at the 10.5 loft but want to have it sit square which means I need to go to the B2 setting correct
    Thank you Stephen

Oops, I should have said column not row.  So the third row (A2 to B1) is .5* open.  If you move up to any lofts in the second row (d3 to c4) then the face angle closes slightly and if you move down to any lofts in the fourth row (d2 to c1) then the face angle opens up slightly, correct?  And the more left on the chart the more upright (which promotes draw) and the more right on the chart the more flat (promotes fade)?

A 9.5* head in the A1 setting will sit .5* open when soled, but the effective loft when the club is squared is 9.5* or is it lower?  That's really my main question.

In all our testing with both our pros and amateurs, .5 open face was perceived to be a square face angle, which is one of the reasons it is our standard face angle.  Most players will try to hit it with what they perceive as a square face angle so the loft will still be 9.5°.  If the player managed to hit it exactly at square, yes, it would be a slightly lower loft.
