I made the switch to the new Titleist 716 AP1's/816’s combos.  Really happy that I waited and can’t wait to hit the new sticks.  Almost went with the AP2’s but my mis-hits were more forgiving with the AP1’s.

Upgraded from TM Burner 2.0 Irons / cally Xhot2 metals.

I was fitted by a Certified Titleist fitter for the following:

    3H 816 H1                            18.25 degree (SureFit) / Stiff/Fujikura Motore Speeder HB 8.8 Tour Shaft

    4H 816H1                             21.75 degree (SureFit) / Stiff/Fujikura Motore Speeder HB 8.8 Tour Shaft

    5I – 9I  716 AP1                    Standard Loft/ Stiff / True Temper Dynamic Gold Shafts / 0.5 degree Flat

PW 716 AP1                         Bent 44 degree / Stiff / True Temper Dynamic Gold Shafts / 0.5 degree Flat

    W1 716 AP1                          Bent 49 degree / Stiff / True Temper Dynamic Gold Shafts / 0.5 degree Flat

    54 Degree                             Vokey SM5 S Grind / True Temper Dymanic Gold S200 / 0.5 degree Flat

58 Degree                             Vokey SM5 S Grind / True Temper Dymanic Gold S200 /0.5 degree Flat

    Anyone else?

Congrats Mike M. I'm sure your wallet is a little lighter these days. Worth every penny! I have been able to put the 915 D2 driver and the 915 F 3 wood plus a vokey 52-8 in my bag this past year. With a 17 and 14 year old sons at home, it will be up to Santa to fill the rest of my bag. Have to get fitted as well. The irons I have now, DC 10 Snake Eyes just are not cutting it these days. But it is what it is. Enjoy every shot with the new sticks.

    Play Well,

    Steve S.

I am sure you will be happy with your custom fit set of clubs.  Congratulations.  Time to hit the links.  Fairways and greens.  Tyler, are you next?  Chuck

Mike, this is similar to the fitting that I had (and don't know where that thread went) from the ML Center. my questions for you: 1. did you consider the 7 wood rather than the extra hybrid. my fitter has put many into this club as it provides a little extra distance over the hybrid 2. did he say why the 59* rather than the 60* and why both in the "S" grind? Steve

Steve, We never discussed a 7W.  I have always played 2 hybrids so that may have influenced the set.  The wedge gaps were more my decision..I wanted a 54 and 58 so we worked backwards to the PW with the right gaps in mind.  My current 60 can be challenging to hit for me on tight lies.  He put me in the S grind since he felt it was easier to open up the club when needed.

Congrats Mike! You will love them. The feeling you get when you flush Titleist irons is why I made the switch two years ago. SO BUTTERY!!!  in my opinion obviously.

Hi Mike - Congratulations on the new sticks!  I remember how excited I was when I switched over to Titleist clubs.  That has been many years (and sets) ago and I could not be happier!  I am expecting my 716 AP2's and an 816 hybrid next week and can't wait for them to get here!  Enjoy the new clubs and be sure to follow up with the group and let everybody know how you like them.

Just got fit at Performance Clubworks in Brookfield, CT by Scott Ward. Big regional fitter in the Northeast. I went in thinking the Dynalite XPs I had in my old AP2-712s were losing me a few yards, as I hit the ball really high with my shorter irons---P-7i. I thought a little lower flight might be better.

I hit all the Titleist-available no-upcharge shafts and even some which required an upgrade. I hit steel and graphite. Nippons, Tru-Tempers, KBSs, Kuro Kages, etc. In the end, the TT XP90 (a standard in the AP1s) seemed to work best for me in the AP2s. Certainly felt the best. I had a few shots with other shafts which gave me as good or better distance, but just didn't like the feel of them as much. I even hit some other well-respected company's iron heads in various shafts, just to humor Scott, but there was no way I was gonna buy anything other than a Titleist, so I told him he was wasting his time. I have been a Titleist loyalist since I played a set of 755 Forged back in 2006 after being afraid of the "for better players" reputation. At the time I was a 12 or 13 hdcp. Now a 9 or 10. But, I digress....

The dispersion consistency with the XP90s was very good and overall they played about a half club longer than my old AP2s with the DynaliteXPs in them. For more forgiveness, I chose to go with an AP1-716 in the 5i and 6i. The AP1 7i fitting demo club was nearly 10 yards longer than my regular AP2-712 6 iron, so even though I like the look of the more compact AP2 forged head with thin topline, I thought the added forgiveness and distance in the AP1 6i was worth putting it in the bag (along with the AP1 5i) instead of the AP2 6i. I figure if I really miss the smaller AP2 6i, I will order one to the same specs separately at a later time. At 60 years old, I need the extra forgiveness and length in my mid-irons, but I still am more confident and usually more accurate with a players-type iron from 125 and in.

I also plan to pick up two new 816 hybrids. I was a little pooped by the end of the iron fitting. I did hit them, but was worn out by the time I did, so thought better of making any decisions about them until I can get a chance to hit them while I'm fresh. They are awesome looking clubs. I really like the look of the H2. Hopefully it will be the model that fits best. It is a smaller head than the H1. I like smaller clubheads.

All in all, I am excited about receiving my new 716 irons on or close to the launch date, just like I did 4 years ago, after being fit for the  the 712s two weeks before their launch. Headed to FL for at least 3 or 4 rounds Thanksgiving week to give them a good workout.

Just made the switch to Titleist myself. Got a 915 D2 Driver Wednesday and I love it. Ordered AP2 716's and hopefully will be here Friday. Good luck.

    Mike,

Congrats on your new hybrids and irons.  Your bag set-up looks really nice.  I'm interested in the 716 AP1s (currently have 712 AP1s), but will probably wait until sometime next spring to upgrade.  Keep us posted on how they perform once you get out and start playing them.

I do have a question though.  The descriptive information for the 816 Hybrids states "loft choices every 2°, and a new 1° SureFit Tour™ hosel adjustment for loft and lie" and the way I interpret that statement is instead of being a .75 degree adjustment like the 710, 713 & 715, the adjustment is now in 1 degree increments. So how did you end up with the lofts you list (just curious)?

Barry good catch.  I contacted my fitter and the 816's are adjustments in 1 degree increments.

Congrats. Love my Titleist stuff. I'm really looking forward to getting the new ap1s. I like what you did with wedges. That never crossed my mind to bend wedges to fill gap better. I love the new 816 h1 hybrid.
