I have my complete set gripped with the Golf Pride Multi-Compound grips with four wraps underneath.  That bulks them up to near mid-size diameter.

I have fairly large hands, 8 1/4" from wrist crease to tip of middle finger.

I used to use Lamkin Jumbo crosslines, then Golf Pride jumbo tour velvets, but I have now gone to Golf Pride Multi-compound mid-size grips, and really like the way they feel and work for me.  Regular size grips just seem like holding a shaft with no grip, but the mid-size grips feel perfect!  That's what I have on all my clubs, driver down through wedges.

I think it depends on your hand size and what size grips work for you.

I have been wanting to switch to midsize for a few years.  My hands aren't quite as large as some ppls, but when i put my hand on a mid size grip it feels so comfortable!

Being that 13 grips can be expensive and a Left Handed player, i have never been able to try someone else's clubs with a larger grip on it, and if I made the change and hated it, that would be a waste! So I am just trying to get a sense how many ppl out there actually make the change to the larger grips!

I would suggest that you just replace one grip on like a 7 iron and see if you like the way it feels. If you do, then you can complete out regripping the whole set. If not, you just need to replace one grip back to what you currently have.

I love the GolfPride multi-compound midsize grips.  Have been using them since they came out.  

I've been gaming the midsize grips for several years for my fullset, currently the GP CP2 Pro midsize and Matador Red midsize. But if you just want to try the feel, you can try adding 4 layers on your wedges or you can purchase midsize grips you desire and have them install on your wedges. With this you don't have to purchase grips for a fullset and save your money just in case you don't like the feel.

Eric , my wife wanted larger grips. Yes it it costly to change them and go back if she didn't like them. So we put tennis racket grip tape on a couple clubs for her to try. She likes them and we are changing them, hope this helps. Dave ...

I used to have extra wraps on my standard grips, when my instructor recommended I move to mid-size.  I gave it a try and have been very happy and will never go back.  I use Winn Dri-Tac.  Not necessarily the most durable, but I find the most comfortable.

I appreciate all the replies, a lot of useful information given.  Im probably not the only one who worries about stuff like this, but theres a reason "standard" is standard. So i always tell myself, use the standard. 

I just totally love the feel of the thicker grip.  I change grips every season, and 2 seasons ago i had put extra wraps underneath each grip, and that felt great.  It was also a lot of work to remove the following season, and so I didn't put the extra wraps on the next time.

Every fall i start wondering about things I should tinker with (things like grips, should i switch from prov1 to the prov1x, backswings and takeaways) As golfers we are always tinkering, aren't we??

I think I will buy a couple midsize grips and see how they feel on the 7 iron and a wedge and go from there!

I think 4 wraps of tape would equal about a mid-size grip. Before taking the plunge you might want to try adding warps of tape and see how it feels 1st.

FYI, I play with 2 wraps on my lower hand to try and fight the "lefts" (1 full length and two layers under the right hand)

I use midsize. My hands are not huge either, and could work with either, but find I grip too tightly with standard.

I use the Golf Pride Tour Wrap grips on all of my clubs.  I put mid size on all of my irons and wedges.  I put the jumbo version on my driver, fairway wood, and hybrids in order to try to slow my hands down and not flip the club and cause a nasty hook.  I even have the jumbo on my putter to try to keep my hands quiet.  I have used this brand and style of grip for a really long time (although I just started adjusting the sizes in the last year or so).  I find that these grips last a long time and can be cleaned with a little soap and water when they start to get slick.  I play about once per week and go to the range once or twice a week so I'm not wearing them out as fast as some of the other T/T members, but these grips last me a couple of years before I replace them.  

  One other tidbit of info.  You sounded as though the cost of a complete set re-grip is an issue.  I live in South Carolina and some of the golf stores/ driving ranges have gripping sales usually in February or March. Check out your area and that may help you with that.  Fairways and greens.

I have midsize multi compound grips with 5 layers of tape on all of my clubs except my putter. On my putter i have a standard baby T grip with 9 layers of tape on it.

When it comes down to it, personal preference trumps all.  I know some people that have larger hands who use standard size grips because it gives them more feel, and vice versa.  When helps you hit more fairways and greens.

I know they're expensive, but I love the Golf Pride MCC+4 grips. Been using them ever since they came out and I just got my new 716 AP2s regripped with them put on. Such a great feeling grip that prevents hook and doesn't cause a high pressure grip on the club which I really love.
