I love playing the multi compound grips.  They give a good balance of feel and extra grip.  Because of the cord in the grip they also perform really well when hands are sweaty or during a rainy day.  The softer bottom of the grip gives you all the feel you will need.  Good luck deciding.

    Grindelwald,

    Hi Paul

Would suggest to ask the guy who is regripping your clubs if he has some clubs with differnet grips available, which you could try for a few shots.

This should lep making a decision

Thanks Christian, I actually grip my own clubs.  I will take your suggestion when purchasing them at the Golf Shop.  Hopefully he'll have a club or two I can swing to help with my decision.

    Thanks

The only grips that I use. The Golf Pride multi compound mid size are awesome and have used them for a number of years. Highly recommend them and you can get tenure with them if you keep them clean. Have the red and black to go with my Titleist golf bag. GO FOR IT. PRICELESS.

if your coming from the velvet tour i would suggest trying the lamkin uTX. they are very similar to the velvet tour and the multi compound grips. i placed them on my irons after using the multi compound grips and i must say i was very impressed. they are soft but firm and they are extremely tacky and are great in all weather conditions. unlike the multi compound grips where they can feel slick after a couple of rounds i have yet to have them have that slick feeling.

Charles B: I bet to differ on the MCs after a couple of rounds. And I think the choir with join in on this one. GolfPride without a doubt makes the best grips on the market and they last not like Lamkin and Winn. Any grip will have a slick feel you do not keep them clean. If you want the best clubs, go with Titleist, if want the best golf clubs grips go with GolfPride. For the putters, go with Winn.

Chuck , it seems to be the popular grip.  I spent some time talking with the Pro I do business with last night, and was able to swing a club with the MCC plus4 grips.  Wow they felt very good indeed.  It looks like I'll be going in that direction.  I just have to shop him a bit. He's high in comparison to online, being that I'll grip them myself.

Thanks for the tremendous input from one and all

Paul, I have the GolfPride MCC plus 4 on my driver and it is a great grip as well. Agree, the grips are not cheap. They do range in price, so it is best to shop around and they are not hard to install.

Hey Chuck , Thanks for the heads up.  I've been shopping and there are a few places online that look pretty reasonable.  I'm just going to re grip all my clubs if I really like the grip.  I had a chance to swing an iron last night at the pro shop and it felt great.  He tried to talk me into the Winn grips, but I didn't like them at all.

Paul, if you want a great putter grip, Winn is the way to go. That is the only grip I will put on my Scotty Cameron putters and the high end putter grips, like the Scotty Matador, are made by Winn. They just do not last long on irons and metals. Too soft.

Sounds Good...Then I will check them out for my putter.  I haven't stepped up to A Scotty yet.  I have been toying with a TM Ghost Mallet putter this last year and not really happy.  Any recommendations.  I'll be checking out new putters after the holiday.

I have to agree with Chuck Z on this.  Golf Pride grips are best.  I tried the Lamkin UTX. They made it about 2 months before they started wearing out.  When they wear out they actually start fraying due the amount of rope like material in them.  I live in South Carolina where it is extremely humid.  But, these should have lasted longer.  I went back to the Golf Pride Multi-Compound.

I've used the GP New Decade MC for over one year now and love the grips, They are firm enough to provide solid feedback, the cord section is perfect for inclement weather or humidity and the durability is really solid. If you keep the grips clean and don't leave your clubs in extreme temperatures (i.e. car trunk), they should last a long time depending on how much you play. They are expensive but well worth the price.

Just wondering does anyone know which grip is best for a player who doesn't use a golf glove?  Does anyone know which grips FC uses?

Hi Marc, I don't play with a glove.  I tested out the MCC plus 4 grips that were suggested to me on this thread and they felt fantastic. I stopped using a glove two years ago.  I would take the recommendations that were given to me and go check them out at your local Pro Shop.

Paul, if you don't mind, why did you stop using a glove? I just started using one. I found I had a better grip with less finger pressure holding the club. Just curious.

Hey Dave, I stop using a glove about two years ago.  My playing partner plays without a glove and convinced me to try it.  I just found for my it seemed to work better.  I really feel like I can control the club a lot better.  I tried going back too using one this past season and after one hole took it off.

Marc, if you meant Fred C., he does not use a golf glove as you may already know. When I followed him at Pebble (3-4 years ago, could be 5), his grips looked like what may appear to be a regular GolfPride Tour Velvet grip. ...hope it helps.

Hey, I'm late to this party, but still want to throw my $.02 in. Best grips out there: Golf Pride New Decade Multi-Compound. I have now played them for the last 3 or 4 years after playing Lamkins. The only thing negative I can say about the Golf Pride MC is that they are not cheap. I regrip at least 2-3 times a season. That adds up fast. My wedges, short irons and driver usually get at least 3 sets of grips a season, while my other clubs get at least two sets. At 10 or 11 bucks a grip, plus installation, that adds up to a big number at the end of the year. (I play or practice, or both, virtually 5 or 6 days a week, so they get a lot of use.)

When I played Lamkins, it cost only about 3 or 4 dollars per grip. Obviously, I love my GP ND MC grips or I would have stayed with Lamkin at less than half the cost. I feel you get what you pay for. I LOVE the feel of a new GP MC grip. Gives me confidence when I stand over the ball, particularly holding an AP2-716  iron. (But that's a whole 'nother story.) I make it a habit to clean my clubs after every round or practice session. I also clean the grips every couple weeks with a soft brush and soap & water. It really refreshes the feel of the grip in your hands, though nothing feels as good as a newly-regripped club with Golf Pride New Decade Multi-Compounds.

Doug, you must play a lot of golf.  I play those same grips and do not change them out that often and play three to four times a week.  I keep them wiped clean with a wet towel with each use and they tend to last longer.  You also can purchase the grips on line and put them on yourself.  It is a simple process, if cost is an issue.  .

Chuck, yes I do play a lot of golf. (You'd think I'd be better at it.) But truth be told, I also like the feeling of new grips. So much so that I probably change them before it is necessary. Though I clean them regularly, new ones just feel so good and give me more confidence standing over the ball with a freshly-gripped club in my hands. I can't explain it. It is an indulgence, I admit it.

Yes I know I can buy them cheaper online and yes I can regrip myself. I know how, but I am only charged a couple bucks a grip at the pro shop (free if I buy more than 10) and I trust the guy who does it most of the time. I also don't typically change more than 5 or 6 at a time so the extra 10 or 12 bucks for installation doesn't bother me and is one less thing I have to do.

Chuck +1. I have the New Decade Multi-Compound black/red on my AP-1s. I love the grips and they are a nice color match to clubs and my bag. I'm way too lazy to install them myself, but if I changed grips as often as you, it would be something to consider.

Thanks for the input Doug.  I am going with the multi compound grips.  I have purchased them online for quite a savings and will re grip them myself.  I also play up too 4x a week not including my league night and am hoping to get the season from the grips.

I've played multi-compound grips for a couple of years having once played tour velvet. My opinion is that the MC grips last longer and stay tacky longer. I love the cord portion in the upper half. They aren't too firm but provide excellent feedback. The only downside is that they are about double the price but it's worth it.

I'm late to this party, but recently acquired a D2 driver with the Golf Pride New Decade Multi and I love it.  In Florida, I could only swing my Tour Wrap grips for a few minutes before they became slick with sweat and humidity.  I haven't found this to be the case with the Multi-Compound.  I'll be changing out my irons as soon as I can figure out my preferred sizing.
