I have issues getting a high ball flight with my * 19 degree hybrid, tested a 5 wood of the same loft and I am getting a higher ball flight and only giving up an average a 4 yards [assuming the golf galaxy equipment if working right] .

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar to this ?

For some reason, I could never hit a hybrid. I prefer the look of an easy to hit long iron and had the Titleist 503h for years. I recently picked up a 17* T-MB 2 iron and it is so easy to hit.

5 wood should fly higher, it does for me. It also has a longer shaft so in theory is should be longer, but everyone is different. I would say "in general" a 5 wood should carry farther then a 19*hybrid, but the hybrid may roll out more. So it depends on what you are looking for...carry distance or overall distance.

I wouldn't make your decision on 4 yards. There are a lot more factors in determining what goes in my bag...ball flight, workability, turf interaction and look.

You could also try a 7 wood. Dufner had 1 in his bag when he won last weekend.

    Happy shopping!

I have an 18/5W and a 21 915H. I was getting some better results with S+ shafts in both with the 21/7W, but went with a custom shaft on the 21H with more launch/less spin profile. I prefer the H for coming from the rough, so I kept the H. Personal preference is key. The smash factor at my local box store is often a constant, so you can miss distance variances between dissimilar clubs like H and F. If you were part of the Blizzard of '16, wait until you can see the differences outside.

    Grindelwald,

usually it should be easier to hit the hybrid of the deck and specially rough.

from my experience it is easier to hit the hybrid higher than the 5 wood, but everyone has his one golf

With a longer shaft, there is some advantage for distance w/fairway. I finally left a 7W for a 915H 21 as it can be used in more conditions. Using the same shaft, the advantage went to the F, but a custom higher launch shaft on the H solved that. The box store trackers tend to use a fixed smash factor for distance tracking, so you really need to compare outdoors when comparing different style clubs.

First thing that comes to my mind is shaft flex. A shaft that is stiffer generally will give a lower ball flight than one that is more flexible. Unfortunately when it comes to designating shaft flex between different manufacture's, there is not a set standard. One company's shaft that is designated Regular may be another's Stiff. Another thought is the shaft length. I would think that a 5 wood shaft would be longer than a 19 degree hybrid. Usually it is easier to get a tighter ball dispersion with a shorter shaft vs a longer shaft. Lastly my thoughts are if you trying to reach a green with a 19 degree club, ball height would be better for holding the green vs a club that comes in lower and would have a tendency to run through the green.

A 5 wood is meant to fly higher with a steeper angle of decent. Hybrids typically roll out more. I generally like hybrids better off the fairway. The smaller face typically gives me more confidence. If you have access to an outdoor fitting I would take advantage of the opportunity. Best of luck.

The shaft is a very important element after the loft degree of the head. If you want to hit higher with your hybrid, you could use a shaft having this quality.
In the custom shafts in Titleist web site, you will have a lot of informations for various shafts.
Also, you could use the surefit to increase the loft up to 1.5 degree (Twice .75 degree.) assuming you tried the 915h.
A wood with the same loft as an hybrid, using same shaft should go higher and longer than a hybrid. But, for me a hybrid is having less dispersion.
More head speed helps to increase ball flight.
The shaft selection is the engine of the club.
    Hope this could help you.

I prefer hybrid over 5 wood because of lower launch. If there is only 4 yards carry difference I would stick with the hybrid. You may want to see a fitter and try a lower launching shaft like the D+ 90 or the Speeder 8.8 or 9.8 in the hybrid assuming you already adjusted to the lower launch.

I find my 17* hybrid to be more workable than my 5-wood, which I prefer for precision tee shots on tight par4s, and par 5 second shots, etc. If I were only using this club for long par 3s, I would probably swap it out for the higher-launching, softer-landing 5-wood.
