  1. Hello, is it possible to spec a set of AP1's to mirror the lofts of AP2? 5 iron at 26 degrees of loft thru to PW at 46 degrees of loft. Thank you

    Steve,

Just curious, why would you want to do this?

I concur... Why would you want to adjust the lofts to mirror the AP2s? The AP1s are set to be long and forgiving with the low cg to match the stronger lofts. Weakening the lofts may make the flight of the ball balloon up. Inquiring minds would like to know...
  4. Hi DV
I was just curious as, I am looking to change my current irons with something more forgiving and consistent. I do not get the opportunity to practice as much as I used too and would like a club that enables me to maintain my handicap of 4 and doesn't look like a shovel on a stick. The lofts are for distance gapping purposes and a 26 degree 5 iron with 4 degree incremental lofts up to PW would work for me and fit in with my wedges and woods.
    Regards

    Steve,

There Is a saying amongst golfers regarding the quality of one's golf game that states - "It's the *** and not the arrow". There is truth in these words. A set of clubs will not help one maintain one's handicap. It's one's abilities and persistent efforts that will go a long way in determining how good a golfer will be.

As you maybe aware, the AP1 irons are 2 deg stronger than the AP2s in the 3I to 6I, and 3 deg stronger in the 7I through the gap wedge (W). The design of the AP1 incorporates more tungsten along the sole of the clubhead than does the AP2 iron. Adjusting the lofts of a set of AP1s to mimic those of the AP2 irons will not produce similar performance as you might think. It is possible that the clubface thickness may also be different between these 2 sets of irons. This factor would also influence the performance differences of these clubs.

I would recommend you see a Titleist certified fitter to work with you resolving issues you may have with any gapping. You may even decide that a set of AP2 works better for your game. I was fitted into a set of AP1s from a 5I through gap wedge (W). I also was fitted with 3 additional Vokey SM6 wedges (50, 54 bent to 55, and 60). I also was fitted with a 816 H1 hybrid. I carry a 1 handicap and I am thinking I may be able to get back into playing +handicaps soon with these clubs. If you haven't hit the AP1 iron yet, the first thing you realize when you hit them is just how powerful these clubs are coming off the clubface. The clubs are forgiving as you would expect for game improvement iron. When I was fitted, I actually hit these clubs with less dispersion (side to side and front to back) than I did with the 716 CB or 716 AP2. I would have been happy purchasing any of Titleist's clubs but the AP1 was just a hair better performance wise for me. Getting fitted is the key to making an intelligent descision.

    Best Wishes,
    DV
