  1. Hello everyone,

I could use some help, would like to hear about anyone's experience hitting either of these shafts -- KBS C-Taper or Project X. I am waiting for the Titleist 718 CB Irons to release, and having a difficult time selecting either one of those shafts.

I play PX in my current setup (over the last ten years), I like the trajectory, feel, weight, etc. However, KBS has been widely popular, I've compared hitting both shafts at my local golf shop, and the numbers seem to be the same (low spin, good launch angle). KBS seem to go about 5 yards further each time. I guess it basically boils down to "feel" but they both tend to feel the same to me, which is making this decision tough.

Any thoughts and/or explanations about your direct experience is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

I have tried both numerous times and the c-taper would always give me more of a boring flight and better spin numbers. I like the heaver shafts and c-taper gives you that option.

Were you able to get on a trackman to see your spin, launch and apex numbers?

Anyone feel free to correct any misinformation I may give... KBS are the initials of the creator of the KBS shafts. Same guy who created Project X before True Temper bought them...

So, they are similar... at least the original project X shaft.

I've played PX 5.5 and 6.0, both of which are great shafts. One day I stopped by a Titleist Fitting Day just to fool around even thought I loved what I was playing (had AP2s with PX 6.0 at the time) and the fitter watched me and told me to hit a few with the one he handed me (C-Taper). It felt like butter compared to the PX and I bought new clubs even though I didn't need them.

I stuck with the C-Tapers for a couple sets until my last fitting when Titleist Fitter Charlie B told me I needed to try the C-Taper Lite X, which I'm on now. I love them, have had some of my best rounds ever...

But, hit both side by side and go with what works or feels best for you. They are both great shafts.

BA you are correct that it is the same person. Whether the tech has changed for either of the shafts I do not know.

I have the c-tapers in the 714 cbs and like them a lot. They do feel stiffer than other shafts, but I still get great launch and the spin I want to play with them.

I gamed the c-tapers when they first came out in my 712 MBs. Had to send the clubs back to Titleist twice and have the shafts replaced due to them bending at the ferrules. After the 2nd time and it happening again after hitting 10 shots with my 5 iron. I sent them back and had my shafts switched to PX. Never have had an issue since.
Just recently I was comparing shafts on the launch monitor at a fitting day and put the PX 6.5 (which I currently game) up against the C-Taper X. My ball flight was 3° higher with the C-Taper and I lost a little distance. I was trying to find the lowest launching shaft. Fitter didn't have a PX7.0. I was launching my 6 iron at 23° with PX consistently and 26° with the C-Tapers. As you can probably tell I'm a high ball hitter. Lol

It really is totally about the golfer. You need to go hit both on a launch monitor and pick the shaft that gives you the results your looking for.
  6. Great to hear discussions about this...I play PX 6.0 now in my AP2's and I am being fitted shortly so I will need to add the C-Taper's to the list of potential shafts! Thanks
  7. Thanks, guys. I appreciate your input regarding this topic. There's a lot of technology put into both shafts, I'm sure we can all agree they're both excellent and play similar to one another.

We alll strive to play good golf, which makes it tough to decide on the equipment that is going to help give us the best outcomes.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, I've noticed that not a lot of tour pros use the KBS C-Tapers. Seems that more play PX, when compared to the two.

I'm also wondering when I do purchase the 718 CB Irons with either KBS or PX, how easy/likely is Titleist willing to switch out the shafts provided I don't like one or the other?

    Thanks again, guys.
