Based on my fitting with a 7 iron, and the results of using a rental set of AP1s compared to my AP3 set all with the same shaft, first of all, I didn't see a distance difference worth adjusting. I went with the AP3 because it was consistently 3-4 yards longer than the AP1. Secondly, after you get them with the stock lofts, you can see if you have a distance gap to correct. How your longest iron gaps to your next hybrid/fairway also has an impact which way to adjust if needed. Mixing AP2 with AP1/AP3 is a more complex decision.

I did and went with the AP3 lofts for the entire set. I could not be happier.

While I do not play AP1's or AP3's, a colleague of mine was fitted by a Titleist professional last fall. I just looked at his specs and they were all stock for 5-6 AP1, 7-W AP3.

I have 5-6 in AP1, and my 7-48 in AP3 are bent to match the AP1s. Very happy with the clubs. I am thinking of picking up the 5-6 in AP3 because I like the feel of the AP3s better, but no qualms with the distance I'm getting with the AP1s.
