  1. Anyone try a u500 and any comparisons with t mb? They don’t seem to have created the same buzz as the t mb’s of last two driving iron generations.

  2. My father just bought a u510 3 iron. He tried the tmb and said it was way easier to hit and get it I the air. I have a tmb 4 iron but am left handed and still yet to see any of the new U series in southpaw form to swing.

    Hijack warning!

Relatively new player (3 years), what are the reasons for using a driving iron vs a 3W or 5W? My long clubs are just a driver (240yds) and a 20* hybrid (200yds) before I hit my 4i.

The golfsidekick (youtube) has me thinking about trying a driving iron/utility iron.

    Thanks,

Since there isn't one magic setup that works for all golfers, a 3I hybrid for some will launch "too high" (work with a pro on your bag setup) and a driving iron should provide a more penetrating flight. On high wind days, a driving iron may be a better choice than the hybrid or 5W. Most serious golfers, and certainly the pros have 16-17 clubs and adjust their 14 clubs based on course and weather conditions. At the other end, soft conditions in the spring and hard pan in the summer can change the amount of bounce needed for wedges.

Thanks Don. Good advice. I'm still at the stage of buying used clubs and trying them to see how they fit my game. My 3h has a relatively low launch trajectory for fighting high wind days or where a "run out" is needed. When i can consistently hit stingers with my 4iron then i might look into the 3u.

I would suggest getting a club fitting and lesson to get a professional opinion oh clubs.

I went from the TMB to a U510. I did get fit for it (actually have the 3 and 4 U510 in the bag now). For me the U510 flies higher with more distance that the comparable TMB.
