my affection for the titleist brand cannot be understated and clearly differs from the affection i have for other brands i tend to be loyal to, like apple, bmw and the habit burgers.  lucky for me my mrs. finds more enjoyment then irritation witnessing the man she inexplicably decided to spend the rest of her living days with, smitten with childlike enthusiasm when in the company of just about anything monikered with a titleist logo.  titleist has become my brand.  my identity placard.  my public display of affection to anyone who cares to take notice that not only is there the possibility that i may be a gentleman, but i also play a gentleman’s game with a certain measure of proficiency which allows me to effectively use, what some might consider the requisite instruments of a true golf technician.

oddly, this affection is relatively newfound.  twenty-five years ago i sporadically played golf with my high school buddies, never haven taken a lesson and mentally ill-equipped for a game that required an intellectual fortitude that i simply did not possess at the time.  fast-forward to today.  and unexpectedly the onset of a little gray around the sides of my somewhat balding head has also brought with it a certain temperament well-suited to dealing with the short-comings of a work-in-progress swing and brand spanking new, middle-aged, game management system that gets better with each bad lie, poor estimate of my shot-making ability or stubborn refusal to lay-up on courses i pay to play. (paying to lay up just rubs me the wrong the way)

ya i am new to the game.  sure, there’s a 12-year old on my block who has been playing golf for six years and can beat the breaks off me, probably at will.  and ya when i go to sleep most nights i lay in bed beside my beautiful mrs. thinking of the art of the swing and certain swing nuances that may or may not allow me to shape the shots i want to be able to pull off.  work, family, upsizing my house, downsizing my bills, my career, my mrs., my neighbor’s incessantly barking dog and my mrs.’s never ending ‘honey-do’ list are things that the soulfulness of this game provides me a pleasant a retreat from.  sometime’s you just gotta get away from it all and celebrate simplistic purity of a well struck particular little white ball, using the particular set of tools, clad in a particular monikered uniform.

for whatever it's worth i'll be regularly posting a collage of my words here.

Great post! especially the part about laying in bed thinking about swing nuances. I can relate to your thoughts as I imagine many other loyal Titlteist golfers do as well. Good luck taking down the 12 yr old, I'm sure with lots of practice and positive swing thoughts you can get there.

Well said. I, too, share the same passion for Titleist overall. The products seem to fit me game perfectly and the customer service is second to none. Kudos to all Titleist team members and the staff that make Titleist what it is today.

Beautiful words! My wife continues to ask me  to move my 4   pair of  new footjoys to the closet or that stack of new prov1's to the basement. As I lay in bed looking at the sun reflect off the new fallen snow I can't wait to sneak off  the club practice facility and pound a bucket or to into the net. Maybe put and chip on our 50' short game practice area. Spring baby it's just around the corner!

    Great Post.

I completely agree. It's wonderful to find a brand you can identify with that also has the greatest product on the market.

Reading this over here in SoCal, it makes me realize how fortunate we are that we do not have an off season in the Winter. Besides a day of rain every now and then, we are truly blessed to have the privilege to golf year round.

Looking forward to reading more of your posts in the future 'Totally Titleist.'

    Well said.

I sit in snowy MN thinking of golf.  I found some books to read to keep me occupied.  I fall asleep most night teeing off the 1st hole on my favorite course, this helps me relax and I fall asleep before I finish the 3rd hole.  Man I wish spring would come soon.  To all you TT members in warm weather climates, go play 18 for me.

I thought that I was the only one...

I also keep my Staff Bag within an arm length away from my bed. It's nice and cozy up here. I mean, would "you" leave a baby left sitting out by itself? No.

I too am a Titleist loyalist....everything in the bag is Titleist down to the golve and ball.  I reflected on how it came to be and here is my story.  I was introduced to golf by my dad.  He took me out and said I need to learn the game first.  I then went to caddying.  The local head pro caught on to my interest in the game, and every once in a while he would give me a single club that had been in the lost and found for a while and was unclaimed.  My favorite and go-to club was a DCI 5 iron.  From that point I was hooked.  I also think, that about 10 years ago, Titleist was (and still is) a "players" brand.  My ignorant brain thought that by playing a certain brand I would become a better golfer.  Over the years I realized this isnt true.  So for all of my purchases I try out different brands.  It just so happens that AP2s allowed me to start shaping shots with forgiveness; my 909D3 had better numbers than other drivers; my 909h felt and sounded better than the other brands; and my 7 year old Cameron Newport looks and feels the same!

Have a great 2011 Team Titleist.
