    Hi

1st time blogger so be gentle.Just arrived home from driver fitting.I am off 6 with swing speed 95 and ball speed off driver 140.Fitted for 910 D2 9.5 with upgrade shaft stiff graphite design tour AD D1-6.This produced same spin rates as my olc 909 D3 but produced 20 plus yards carry due to higher launh angles etc.

Simple question is the suggested shaft worth the £100 upgrade as opposed to the standard Aldilla RIP 60 which produced similar results?

    Hi John,

I guess the big question is how similiar were the results and will you second guess yourself later if you go with the RIP?  I have the RIP in my driver and love it but haven't been fitted.  I plan on going to a fitting after I shake off the winter rust and get some practice in.  I know if I left the fitting with a recommended shaft but bought another one, I would always second guess myself on whether or not I am getting the most out of the club especially if I am hitting it poorly.  Then I am sure I would end up purchasing the other shaft anyway.  Just my two cents worth.  On a good note, if you buy it with the standard RIP and want to upgrade later, it should be easy to do but might cost more later.  Not sure.

First time blogger as well. I am looking for a driver to knock my g10 out of the bag and I am ready for a fitting session at Golf Galaxy for the 910 D2--in Diamani red or blue.Does anyone know the face height of the D2? The G10 is 57 mm according to Golf Digest hot list of Feb 2009. VIRG

  4. If the specs and numbers were similar , why would you choose the upgrade? Were you fitted on a launch monitor outdoors where you could see actual ball flight? I was fitted at a golf shop by  a Titleist rep that was traveling from store to store. It was a 20 min. fitting on a Flightscope, indoors. I was fitted with a D2 8.5 Kal'li stiff. My swing speed is similar to yours, avg. 92-96mph. The shop let me take one out to play out on the course for a weekend where I could actually see the ball flight .etc. I was hitting the ball so low compared to my R9 and was 10-15 yards avg shorter.  I ended up purchasing a D2 9.5 with the RIP 60 stiff and my drives are now avg.10- 15 yards longer than the R9 Supertri. I also like the feel of the RIP. The cool thing about this club is that I can reduce the loft or add loft without changing the lie.

I will give you £1000 for 20 yards extra.  Does that answer your question?  I have a 910 D2 with RIP stiff and think is is about 5-10yards longer than my 909 D2 with Aldila NV65s, but I can take the right side out of play with the 910 D2 setting at C3.  What is the difference in yards between the Graphite Design and the RIP?

To be honest by the end of the session I was so shattered physically/mentally the figures were a bit of a blur!! hitting driver non stop in the snow covered range for 1.5 hours is a bit of a slog. The fitterwas keener for me to take upgrade....are they on a bonus? The major difference between the shafts was the upgrade graphite design was smoother and felt less stiff due to lower torque...the extra carry was due to higher launch angle generated by the change from D3 to D2.I was sold on the club itself due to the setting at flat and 1.5 degree open. This gave me the confidence to release and not give in to the wild hook...as a leftie this takes out the right side

I agree 100%.  If it is straight and an extra 20 yards I would pay the extra in a heartbeat.  I have the 910D2 9.5 with a RIP 60 stiff.  I used the 905T before that and always wanted to upgrade, but the 907 and 909 never gave me the results when I got fitted.  When the 910 came out I got fitted again and the 910 D2 added 15 yards over my 905 and it was less spin with the RIP.  Bought it and didn't care what the cost was.  If it is that much better buy it.  100 is nothing for that many more yards!

Guys picked up 910 D2 setting E4(Leftie setting...so open 1.5 and 0.75 flat) with the graphite design D16 upgrade.Although its cold and soggy in Edinburgh I felt really comfortable hitting the club.Nice flight and able to release without fear of hook.I am up at the Old course St Andrews on saturday so the old adeage "left is right and right is sh++te" should not be an issue.Thank you for help and advice

    Hi,

I,m also from the UK, and the results you have had from the fitting are undoubtedly excellent!! However, I would guess you have to ask yourself whether you are happy being fitted the best with what shafts were there on the day, or whether you wanted to be fitted optimally, which are two different things, as you probably only had a few shafts to be fitted from and not the 240 that Titleist offer. I personally would say the numbers alone would say stick with the DI 6, Subject to you seeing the ballflight outside of course, if not, due some research into ALL the Titleist shaft offerings on their website, not just the ones available on the day, and when you have done your research, then ask them if they could let you try the ones you earmark as worth a try. Give them a call and ask Titleist if they would be kind enough to send the shafts to your pro or go to another fitting day and ask them to bring those shafts with them for you to try and satisfy yourself, you deserve to try what you would like to, out of the other shafts you may be interested in.

    Good Luck

I was at Kingsacre Titleist fitting centre just outside Edinburgh Scotland. Not sure if they had the full selection of shafts but certainly plenty to keep an old hacker happy.Too much choice etc would confuse me further!! Its a full length range with pro vx's to hit so flight etc is covered.

I really am just deciding between the upgrade and RIP .The graphite design felt smoother and whilst hitting I did swing well. The RIP was tested at the start and end of session so results a bit out due to stiffness and tiredness. On average taking out the odd bad one with Rip the results produced very similar stats.Overall the fitter recommended the D16.

John C:  Congrats on your fitting!

Behind the scenes there isn't much of a margin difference for the fitter.  If I were you, I'd go back and hit them again and take a little bit more time.  Shouldn't be a problem for the fitter.  We offer a free followup session at our Studio just for scenarios like yours.

Great service Ryan and a fab idea to have a 2nd follow up as you offer, awesome. But if someone like our friend is initially fitted in to the DI6 for instance, which carries a c. $150 upcharge, then goes back to the fitter like yourself coz he is unsure, and it is found out the original fitting was indeed a little off, and, lets say the RIP shaft is found to be the better fit, does Titleist refund the original upcharge for the DI6, bearing in mind there is no upcharge for the RIP?

    Just wondered Ryan?

    Regards

In the past 6 years of instruction and fitting, I have had only one player switch shafts on me.  :)  I basically don't order anything until they are 110% ready.

Hypothetically, if this situation were to happen to me, I would gladly refund the original purchase price difference and put the RIP in the bag.  I would keep the original driver because most likely, at some point down the road, somebody will buy it from us even though it's gently used.

A potential $150 loss on one driver is way below anything significant in our business.

Glad to hear that. Obviously some people are very discerning and more informed than others. But its good to hear of your ethical and thorough approach without fear of restrictions.

    Hi

Neither I or Titleist would want to confuse you anymore! LOL So apologies for that. Some of us gear heads can get a bit discerning and feel the need to be fitted optimally is important to us, and not just the best fit with what is there, so want to try a larger range of shafts, if you did feel like this Titleist most defo have the answer to the really discerning golfer who wants to be fit optimally. Although you say you are an old hacker, you do yourself an injustice, you deserve to be fitted optimally and as I said, Titleist certainly have the means to do that. You do yourself an injustice because if you were an old hacker that didn't really mind either way, then you wouldn't be on here with uncertainties, and wouldn't feel the need to ask your important question in the first place. I would say, go with what FEELS right to you. If you feel that you would regret not having the DI6 if you had the RIP or visa versa, then why not ask for a second fit with Titleist and ask them to bring along shafts such as the Fubuki Tour and the Oban Kiyoshi, these shafts could work well for you too, and I am sure, as Titleist offer them as custom options, they would happily bring them along to a second fitting. If the second fitting still says the DI6 or the RIP, then go with it I would say, but the other two shafts I mentioned may surprise you too.

In addition to this, if the fitter is using the Trackman Launch Monitor, which is fab, ask the fitter to go into the club optimizer mode, and ask to see the results, its brilliant coz it will show you what is you optimum launch angle, spin rates, ball speeds, decent angle, carry distance and total distance, this facility on Trackman allows him to get as close to your absolute optimum figures as he can, and allows you to see how close you are getting to your own personal optimum! If you are nowhere near it, the fitter should give you other shafts that may get closer to it, strive for the best you can be, and get those figures near your optimum, Titleist have all this at hand for you, you are paying for it, so use it, try as many shafts as they offer on their website to strive to get close to that optimum on Trackman and you, with Titleist 240 shaft option get pretty close, that will also help you make your decision easier and put your mind at rest too.

    I wish you well.
