I was just fitted for the TSR driver and fairway woods. I must say, they do not disappoint. I currently play a TSi3, 8 degree, Project X HZRDUS Smoke RDX Black, 6.0.
These TSR's are gorgeous, and look better in person.
After warming up and establishing a baseline with my current set up, we started with the TSR2. I hit about 6 balls, and my face control wasn't "dialed in" yet (additionally it was 9am, a bit cool outside, and I'm 53). Missing it to the right, but did straighten it out. Club head, and ball speed were up, but dispersion wasn't great, and I wasn't crazy about the feel.
TSR3. It felt better than the TSR2. Club head and, ball speed up (ball speed up 2.5-3 mph). Felt better than the TSR2, and dispersion was better, but not great. It was a bit "spinny" at around 27/2800. No doubt I wasn't delivering the club great. My TSi3 is around 2400. Sound was muted a bit from last year's. They changed settings because I was getting a bit of a heel strike. Hit a few more, but still didn't feel like I was hitting it on the button. The guy said to just hang out in the hitting area, and stretch for a couple minutes while he made adjustments.
After stretching (much needed) he handed me the club. I hit the next ball... ball speed was up 3.5. Felt amazing, very solid, and sounded great. I asked what they did, and he said to just keep hitting. I hit 4 or 5 more. On the button, big carry, dispersion was great. I asked again what he did, and he said to look at the club. It was the TSR4. Blew me away. Had he told me it was the TSR4 before hitting it, I might have handed it back. It looks much better than the TSi4. Next to the TSR3 it looks similar (save for the slightly smaller head). He said they're calling it the "TSR3.5" because it's much easier to hit. My spin dropped to 2000 - 2100. I hit some more, ball speed was up 4 - 4.5 mph. I felt like a kid with a new toy. They said they are placing a LOT more people in the TSR4 than anticipated.
I hit 6 - 8 more balls with the TSR3 and my TSi3, and the numbers held up. Winner, TSR4. I'm ordering mine tomorrow.
For the TSR drivers the shaft was the new Project X HZRDUS Black 4G 60, 6.5. After deciding on TSR4 we tried a Ventus (blue?), very, very stiff... too stiff, and then something softer... a Fujikura, but didn't like that either.
The fairway woods were awesome, too. I got my specs for the TSR2, 15, and 18 (same as my TSi2's), with the new Mitsubishi Tensei 1K Black 75 X-Stiff (it replaces the Tensei White Raw). I'm holding off on ordering the fairways for a few months. Actually, I'll probably wait for the hybrids to come out so I can test those, and gap my bag accordingly. I did hit the TSR2+. It's a rocket! I'm not sure if it fits in my bag, but we shall see. I'm glad to see Titleist release something new with the 2+. It was time.
I'm curious to hear if others changed to the TSR4.
Cheers,
E
