Has anyone placed these two new drivers in a head to head challenge?  Would like to know if all the TM hype is true or just trying to catch up with the mark Titleist put out with the release of the 910 ahead of them.

  2. I've hit both.  For me, there was no comparison.  The 910 D2 with the 72 gram Diamana shaft is golden.  The look/sound/feel of the 910 D2 is as good as I've seen/heard/felt and it goes long and straight too.  I was able to customize a 9.5 to 10.25 degrees of loft.  I was always right between a 10 and 10.5 - now I really am!  The R11 sounded horrible and felt awful too.  The goofy white did nothing for me.  Alignment aid?  I don't think so.  Distraction?  Yes.    But remember, not everyone is the same.  I'm sure there are lots of people (maybe not on this forum!) who will love the R11.  I tried to like the R9 and couldn't get it to work for me.  My friend has the R9 and hits it well (although now he wants a 910 D2!)

Thanks I am really leaning to the 910 but just thought I would ask the question.  A buddy of mine just got a 910 he drives it average 10 yards past me now when I used to out drive him on a regular basis.

I've tried them both out. I hit the R11, 910 D2, and the 910 D3. The R11 was ok, it just didn't feel good. The club head was a little to heavy for my preference, and you could really feel the club hit the ball as opposed to swinging through it. It also looks weird, like the kids who where the white sunglasses on a golf course. I really liked the D3, it felt and looked the best.  It sounds perfect, and had that pop off the face that's hard to find. When my smooth swing feels solid and goes far I know its good.. made me want to hold my finish all day.

I hit them both, they are very solid clubs.  It's all in the preference of the buyer.

I will be buying the D3, I'm a die hard Titleist guy and it performed well for me.  The D3 head is very workable and longer than my current 905T.

My buddy is on TM staff and I hit his R11, very hot club also. Hit it about the same distance as D3.  With a shaft fit for me I think it be about the same.  It's just not going to be in my bag.

    Just an honest opinion.

First of all IMO the R11 is ugly.  If you can get past that (and I can't).  Numbers wise I hit them about the same, but the fitting wasn't even close to the same.

The R11 was indoor into a net, they didn't have the shaft I like, and it had tape on the face.  I got Tour fitted for my D3 so the conditions were real. Although it was colder, and there was wind.  I hit it where I wanted, my misses weren't bad, and total distance wise there wasn't a noticeable difference (I carried the TM longer, but there was more roll and total distance with the D3).  I sprayed more with the R11 and my misses were worse with whitey as well, but it wasn't apples to apples.

    I own a D3, and I love it.

I spent about 3 hrs on the simulator hitting my old 907D1, 910D2/3 and the R11.  The R11 was 15 to 18 yds further than my 907, 10 to 12 yds further than the 910's.  The R11 was at the neutral setting and right from the get go was smashed down the middle time and time again.  After playing around with the 910's, finally came up with the D2 with C1 setting of which promoted the 10.25 degree loft.  Finally it was there...same distance and accuracy of the R11.  I did purchase the Titleist for the sake of sound, feel and confidence.  The white head caused a distraction for me after a period of time, especially when the sun (outside) and brighter lights (inside) caused a glare.

At the end of the day, it comes down to what feels right for you and promotes the most confidence while in your hand.

  8. Yes - I have and did the comparison over an hour and a half on a launch monitor with my old driver (TM Burner TP), the Titleist 910 D2 & D3, and the R11.

Clubhead speed, ball speed, launch angle, spin rates and carry distance and roll between my Burner TP and the two Titleist models were almost identical.  Even with tinkering with the Titleist set ups, I could only squeeze a bit better results than my Burner TP.  The feel of the Titlesist drivers seemed odd and the hits/compression of the ball felt off.   With the R11, the feel was much more solid from inception.  At the factory neutral setting, my clubhead speed was 4-5 mph faster than amy of the clubs above, launch angle and ball speeds improved and carry and roll averaged 12-15 yards longer than my old Burner TP and the Titleists drivers.  After adjusting the set up to lower the face loft and move to a slight draw bias on the weighting,  I picked up a few more yards on both carry and roll.  I didn't purchase the R11 nor the Titliests since I wanted to come back a second day to see if a different day produced different results.  Came back a week later and the results were consistent with the first day.  I intended to purchase it at GolfSmith, but I ended up purchasing the R11 at a local high end club pro shop who not only sold it at standard retail pricing, but threw in two rounds of golf (valued at $125 ea/ $250 total) for the same price GS.

My conclusion is that you go with what works for you.  If you like the feel of the Titleists and the launch angles, spin rates, clubhead speed, etc are comperable to the R11, buy the D910.  If it goes the other direction, but the R11.

From what I've read  the 910  beats any other driver. with the 910 the ways to adjust it are so much better than the R11. With the 910 you have 9 settings to have the driver set to your  game to a tee. So for my wrap up I would go with the 910 D2 It seems like the best choice.

  10. Ok everyone.....I am in the market for a new driver and these two are the ones I am interested in. Which one should I get? Do they perform the same. Let the fight begin!!!

I tried them both, R11 looks good, but Titleist 910 has huge range of shaft options to choose from to dial the low spin, high launch everyone's looking for. R11 stock Blur shaft was WAY too soft for me and the TP shaft wasn't that much better. At the end of the day SureFit won out because it was easier (and simpler) to dial in the ball flight that I wanted. Now I'm playing 8.5* 910 C-4 (.75* up and flat) D3 w/Real Whiteboard and haven't looked back since.

You will find the R11 is almost all hype.  More tour players even play TM Superfast 2.0 than the R11.  I spent about 3 hours on a launch monitor comparing shafts and models before I selected the 910D3.  The D3 was about 5 yards farther than the Superfast 2.0 and at least 15 yards farther than the R11.  The 910D3 also had the better launch and spin then the TMs.  You will notice in almost every review, the sound and contact with the 910 is superior to all.  Golf Digest Hot list you will see the 910s got top rank in look/sound/feel and performance.  The only 2 categories they didn't top out in in innovation and demand.  Those 2 categories have absolutely nothing to do with what you buy a club for.

A friend of mine (a 2 handicap golfer) went to buy a R11 believing all the hype.  I recommended to him that he try the Superfast and the D3.  He really like TM so he only tried the R11 and the Superfast.  He chose the Superfast and he was getting about 16 more yards with the Superfast over the R11.  So needless to say he bought the Superfast.

And if you saw day 4 of the U.S. Open you got to see Rory rocking his 910 and Yang using the R11.  Rory was spanking Yang so bad off the tee the announcers even stated how it seemed Rory was getting 40 yards over Yang. Rory does average 10 more yards but on that day he was truly spanking Yang and his R11.

I demoed both and the titleist 910 was definitely my first choice.  The r11 had a dull sound and was heavier.  The 910 d2 was light, had a great sound, and the ball exploded off the face.

  14. Taylormade stock shafts are crappy. They then charge an arm and a leg for better shafts.  It is a hot club head but the shaft fitting higher swing speeds is just as important. I love the D3 with the RIP xstiff.  Best driver I have ever owned.  I bought the r11 3 wood from Dicks because I bought in to the hype.  Its a good club but again the stock shaft is not ideal.  Titleist looks out for the better players with their shaft options.
