hello team...........I was at my local cousre today and there was a tent setup for heinen shaft weights. the guy was saying how with added weight in shaft this gives you more clubhead  speed  and cuts down on side spin ...my question  is has anyone tried them before and  are they legal for competition?????            thanx  madgolfer

    hi, mad golfer

i have a golf bud that use the counterweights for most of his clubs.  well, his handicaps didn't get better anyhow and i didn't see any improvement when i played with him.  so i think you should work on your swing then getting those.  hope this help, good luck.

Hmm, added weight for higher swing speed?  I can't believe that guy said that.  Unless the person who's swinging the club has some kind of ability to swing the club faster with heavier weights... I don't think that can be true...

Within limits, if the weight of the club is increased where the player can swing it at the same speed, then we have higher momentum transferring to the ball and the ball might fly a bit further but with increased weight, an average Joe definitely will see decrease in swing speed because the inertia to bring the club down from the top of the back swing gets larger... Maybe I'm missing something....

Maybe I'll find out from the members that I know only a shallow depth of the physics behind golf.. :)

    Hey Bosco

I've wondered about these weights too.

The added weight is in the shaft under the grip, which raises the balance point of the club.

The physical difficulty of swinging the club would be measured by the total weight of the club times the distance to the balance point(roughly).  So you add weight to the butt end, it does raise the total weight but it also shortens the distance to the balance point.

Longer lighter clubs would get grams, shorter heavier clubs would get ounces and this added weight is in your hands so you aren't really swinging more weight.

I don't know if this works or not, I've never tried back weighting.
