So I posted a few weeks ago in the club fitting section talking about my great experience at a fitting day at my home club (Cradoc GC in Wales) and yesterday my new shiny (reeeaaaalllly shiny!!) MB/CB combos came, these are some serious clubs, I'm sad to see my old 990's find their way into my spare pencil bag for winter or unexpected use but 8/9 years is probably enough!
I ordered through my club pro (who also setup the fitting day with our rep) CB 4-7 MB 8-PW with DG X100 shafts std/std/std for loft/lie/length. Also picked up 3 new oil can vokeys with the old grooves (50.08. 54.08 (which hasn't arrived yet!) & 58.08) all the clubs coming with my favourite red GP multicompounds. Managed to hit them this evening after coming back from an interview and holy crap are they great! My first forged clubs and my first blades (OK kinda kept the longer irons CB as golf is hard enough already at a 5hcp!) and these things feel great, hit some balls and then went onto our empty course for a few holes, I kinda need to sort out my distances now as they are a few degrees stronger lofts! I hit a lot of irons from the fairways and they feel great, beautiful trajectory and distinct lack of tailing off ewith a fade or a draw, nice long high and straight! Loved the short iron blades and will be working with these tomorrow to try and groove the knockdowns and 3/4 shots.
I've gotta say that Titleist really nailed it with these irons, I'm still grinning a few hours later!! And the Vokey's, don't get me started! I've been using cleveland wedges since about '02 and I loved them, but the move back to Vokey's really made me realise what spin milled faces can do for you around the greens!! So much more control and I seemed to be stiffing almost every chip I hit. Very nice, as RC would say I'm sure!! Loving the oil can finish, and the feel of these wedges, not so much the battering my ProVx's are getting but hey I don't really mind if I'm getting it in there close all the time!
Enough praise now though, I am a little giddy with it tonight......did I say how shiny they are?? Goal for this year is to cut my 5 hcp down as far as I can (hopefully 4, then 3, then.........) and thanks to my new custom fitted sticks (with stiffer shafts than before) I'm sure thats going to happen with a lot of hard work from me. Also can put back into play my TEI3 that came back from the custom shop in the autumn, 2011 is going to be a good year!
Thanks Titleist for catering to the serious golfer!
