Just wanted to say thanks to Titleist for making great products. I have always used Titleist products, but the 910 line is awesome. I was fitted about six months ago for the driver and 3 wood and recently purchased a 910D3 (9.5 degree)with a Diamana White Board 83 "X". I have always had trouble with too much spin (120 MPH clubhead speed) and this shaft has really helped. If any of you have high lauch, high ball speed conditions, try this shaft. Currently carrying this combo around 320 on average. Also getting some nice roll too. This shaft really takes spin off the shot. I also go a 910FD (15 degree) with the VS Proto 80 "X". This shaft has always worked for me in a 3 wood and I am carrying it 290. Always get fit before you purchase and you'll be really happy you did. It is definitely worth it.
  2. Thanks Jason!

Glad to hear getting properly fit has produced such good results for you.

The bottom line is "if it don't fit, it don't hit." Properly fit clubs make a big difference in your game. To give a bit of history, I had been basically 5'11 3/4" tall from high school thru 2005 (I had an insurance physical where my height was measured at 6'1" - possibly due to better posture) and had been using standard lie clubs all this time. I took up golf again in 2006 and I would hook or pull my woods and hit irons dead straight. I made a change in 2008 where I stood more upright and my woods straightened out (along with being able to hit hybrids well); however, I started having problems with consistency with irons and sudden onset of swing faults. Then I got into clubmaking in 2009 and constructed a set of Snake Eyes irons. This is where I found out that improper fit leads to swing faults (caused by muscle fatigue and/or loss of balance). Ping's static fit charts indicated I should use yellow dot on irons. The standard lie angle charts stated 1 degree upright. The issue with these is that Ping irons have a .75 degree lie angle spacing between clubs and the standard lie chart has 1/2 degree between each iron from 8-PW and a degree between each iron from the 7 iron up. Some vendors have a 1/2 degree spacing between clubs throughout. So, as one can see, a standard lie 5 iron is 62 deg in one set and 60 in another - that is a huge difference! I actually have my lie angles and shaft lengths for 5-XW irons recorded on a spreadsheet. I did a bit of a science experiment on an old set of Lynx Black Cat irons (these were the ones I had difficulty hitting in 2008; the cost was $5 per club for lie angle adjustment - I had to bend the 5 iron 2 degrees, the 6 iron 1.5 deg, the 7 iron 1 deg and the 8 iron 1/2 degree for them to hit properly and the spacing was 1/2 deg per club) I know that when I buy a sand wedge (35.25") that I have to bend the lie angle to 64.5. Lob and X-wedges are 65 deg (35" length). I hit the entire set of Black Cats dead straight with a reasonable degree of consistency (but don't use them because they don't get the distance that my Snake Eyes irons did and my Eye 2 irons do). I found out a set of Titleist AP1 irons in standard lie pretty much matches the lie angle values on my spreadsheet. "Don't fit, don't hit" also applies to set makeup. The standard 1-3-5 wood, 3-4H, 5-PW, GW-SW-LW setup may not necessarily work for everybody. For instance, I fare better with a 7 wood vs a 3H. Likewise I fare very well with a 5H. Although I can hit a 6 or 7 iron, it is a lot less work to use the persimmon 34 hybrid in my bag (which I just about never miss with - I can work the club between 140-160 yards by choking up and down the grip). A gap wedge has never been of any added value (I work my PW pretty well; furthemore, the Ping Eye 2 PW in my bag has a 50 deg loft - why bother?). In short, with proper fit and set makeup, I have gone from barely breaking 100 for 18 holes to consistently shooting in the mid 80s.
