I am having my ball flight balloon a little with my D2 driver. Has anyone switched to the D3 driver and what can I expect in ball flight. I have a swing speed of about 100mph with my driver. Just seeking some advice before I purchase another driver.

    Otis,

I completely understand what you are talking about. I play the D3 driver currently, but first tried the D2. I was spinning the D2 much more than the D3 and launching it so much higher. I decided to go with the D3 because of its low launch, low spin characteristics.

You may want to check in to some lower spin shaft options as well. Sometimes the shaft can be the reason that you feel like you are hitting the ball too high or spinning it too much.

    Hope this helps Otis!

I agree with Austin.  The shaft makes a HUGE spin difference in your ballflight.  I was fitted for the D3 because I tend to have a high ballflight with a lot of balloon-inducing backspin.  Currently I am playing the Diamana Kai'Li and I find it to be too high spinning of a shaft, as well.  Most likely, I will be changing to a Proforce or Voodoo shaft soon.

Just be sure to get a thorough clubfitting before you make a change/purchase.

I agree as well and had it confirmed last weekend. Currently using the D2, 9.5 with the same results you are speaking of. My club head speed was 101, same as yours. Trackman confirmed that with the D2 spin rate being 3819 using RIP shaft. Tried the D3 with variety of shafts and ultimately the results were best with D3, 9.5, RIP 60 stiff (extra 1/2' tipping). Reduced my spin rate to 2797. Defintely have to use a ProV1X to reduce spin as well. D3 reduced max height and landing angle. Increased carry by 7 yards and overall length by 13 yards. Amazing what a proper fitting will do! Hope this helps.

I have played the D2 and D3 and tried the RIP, PX 6.0 and 6.5, all the Diamana shafts. my SS is +/- 105. I then fitted the ACCRA Dymatch fitted and now use the D2 on A! setting. I play a long and windy course and most of my Golf is on coustal courses. I want a lower ball flight. this is the best combination I have ever played. I have no spin issues with the D2. the only "standard shaft" that gave me good results are the Black Diamana. I have a set of shafts that I sometimes play when I play inland and want higher ball flight. My results with the Project X was disappointing. I lost distance and did not like the feel of the shaft. I found the D3 head unforgiving and sometimes "dead". If some of the top tour pro's can play D2 then it must be good for me. they dont have spin or beloon problems because they get fitted with the right shaft and settings. I suggest you pich the head you like and then hunt for the shaft that works with the right settings. By changing the settings I can reduce my spin rate by 800 to 1000 rpm.
