  1. Hey everyone sorry to bug you but I have a bit of a problem. I had set my heart on getting a set of CB's but yesterday when I went to get them I had a hit with some AP2's and they felt bloody good. Can anyone shed some light one what the pro's and con's are of either set. For the record I am a 6 to 10 handy capper. Also can anyone give me any details of weather I should wait for the new AP2's. What are the differences between the current set of AP2's to the new ones coming??? And is there a eta on when they will hit the shops Thanks heaps everyone for your time I really appreciate it Mike

i have found that the cb's are a little bit firmer that the ap2's also. I have found that I get a little highr ball flight with the ap2's. They both look almost exactly the same and the are both great clubs!!

I dont play Titleist irons but have extensively tested both. to me the AP2's with normal DG 300 S or R shafts hit the ball to high. or if you normally hit the ball low and want a higher flight, then they are great. or have them fitted with a shaft that will lower the flight. if Steve Stricker and a lot of the other pro's use them they must be great. The CB and MB to me are very much the same. as forged irons they are not soft and when you have a bid of a bad day they are very unforgiving, on the other hand very rewarding when you hit them pure. playing the AP2's are not an indication that you are not a good ball striker. My advice, take the AP2's. You will build confidance using them and this is the key to good consistant golf. The new ones should also be good, understand that they want to bring the flight down with the new ones.
  4. Thanks heaps for taking the time and for the advice guy i really appricate it. Jakes i'll def take your advice then and wait till the new ones come out.

Anyone know if the size of the new 712 AP 2's are bigger than the 710's?  From the pics I have seen, they seem bigger (longer).

    Thanks,

Mike, I think we are both facing the same problem... AP2 vs CB. As I am still currently using the first 690CB, I am more inclined on the CB's. I will concede that the AP2 is be easier to hit, but I did notice higher ball flight. Shaft selection is also something to consider, that will boil down to preference.

Since the new 712's have gone out in the tour now, maybe we can watch closely the players who are using them... I believe they come out in the market in November. I suggest holding out until then, its just a couple of months away. Try the new 712's by then, and if you still like the 710's they would be cheaper come end of the year.

Have you considered mixing you iron make up? I am thinking of a 4-6 CB's, and 7-9 MB's...

  7. hey buddy nah i havent really thought about the mix up option, however as much as i would like my game to be good enough to hit the mb's i think im a fair bit away from that. consistency is not my preffered club in my bag unfortunately.

Carlo do you know if shaft selection can bring a ball flight down???

Hi Mike !  I actually purchased the 710 AP2's and played them for a while.  To be clear on the point that they hit the ball higher also means they spin more.  I had a hard time controlling spin with DGS400's, if you buy them, look more towards the New Project X shaft or the C-Taper shafts as they are both slightly lower launch and low spin.  This means they will be more forgiving than the CB's yet not over spin or hit trajectories that are difficult to control in the wind.  Note: The C-Taper is what Stricker is playing.  I have the 710 CB's with Project X shafts now and love the way they play.

The really big issue for me was turf interaction, the AP2's on firm turf were not smooth for me, they seemed a bit bulky through the ground.  The CB's are spot on for me related to turf interaction.  I would highly recommend waiting for the new 712 AP2's to come out and make sure you try them on real grass simialr to what you play on normally.  That will give you the best chance of being satisfied with your purchase.

Don't underestimate the importance of how the clubs feel through the ground, remember, the pro's have thier clubs custom ground for things like turf interaction, heel relief etc.  They have thier issues fixed or custom made for them.

Simply put, I would be playing AP2's with C-Tapers if I could get the sole design and relief points of the club to be the same as the CB.

  9. Hey Scott,

Mate thank you heaps for the advice hey, i will def look into the shaft selection as i have no problem hitting high and would like to keep it down a bit. You suggested C-Tapers, do you know if these come in different flexs??? Also with the Project X shaft do you know which number would be the stiff flex??

This is really torturing me hey i just want these 712's to come out so i can get them, hurry up Titleist i want them now haha
